  • Ok... a ton of questions

    [:)]

    1) Where is this Performance Tool manual I see people talk about? (maybe after I get that many of my other questions will be answered through that)

    2) What does the Ghost key do exactly? Let me start a legato frase without the first note being legato?

    3) If I cant get the Ghost key to work, then what? (i keep trying but nothing happens)

    4) Is it possible to play the same note twice while in legato?

    5) Why load the .pal files?

More to come Im sure... but maybe the manual will explain all this... thanks

Answer: Repetition trigger. Example: Play C3, press repetition trigger key (D1 = default), press C3 again, let loose of repetition trigger.

  • christian, did you download the zip file with the performance tool beta?
there is a manual included in the archive

  • Thanks.. lol.. I dident have Acrobat Reader installed on my music boot up, made especialy for VSL [:D]

So I did not see the PDF..

  • ok... It does not say anything about loading Pal files... I assume thats for correct instrument range etc... I have a problem.. when I load up a legato patch, and set the tool for Hor-Legato it will nott allow me to open the corresponding Pal file... it says "file type does not match - no loading"

  • Hi Christian,

are using the right "Loading dialog box"?
With the loading dialog box in the menu bar at the top, you can only load complete tool settings. That means a setup for all midi channels and ports.
This file types are called ".vlp"

If you want to load a legato template of a certain instrument on a selected midichannel you have to use the "open" dialogue button directly above the legato settings.

You can also drag an drop files directly from the desktop into the legato edit area. I prefer it this way, because it's much faster.

  • As a matter of fact it happened the same to me, it's a sort of a bug: you have to choose first the legato option, then load the .pal file, and then switch to hor-legato...

  • Hi Herb... yes.. Im using the right loader. And as Tycheth says... if you choose regulart legato it works. However I beleive it gets set to default when you swap back to to Hor-Legato...

  • Christian, you were right.
There was a compatibility problem with the legato templates.
I've corrected it and CM will inform you when the new templates are uploaded.

  • Good job, thanks alot!

Does anyone know what issueas this could cause?

  • sorry guys, i've been sleeping [;)]
    it's online now at http://vsl.co.at/english/pages/user_area/updates/tool_presets.htm

if of any interest: there has been a problem between different versions of the tool reading the format properly

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • Excuse me for asking this if it is somewhere in the archives... I've got a weird squeak at the beginning of legato phrases...seems to be coming from the legato strings I have running. Really ruins the mood... how do I fix that? Does it have something to do with the ghost key? I'm thinking the legato starts have a scooping sound, like they are coming from a note and not just starting, but I'm just wanting them to start with that particular note.

I've just started working with the performance tool - so maybe I am doing something wrong.

    ???

Also - my trumpet ensemble legato would not load - said the sound wasn't there. ????? Is this a known problem, or should I try to redownload it?

    Thanks.

  • Have you set the legato to "Hor-Legato" and not just "Legato" in the tool?

  • "Have you set the legato to "Hor-Legato" and not just "Legato" in the tool?"

I haven't actually been setting anything in the tool - have just been using the "perf legato" sounds out of the box, so to speak.

I looked in the display (where you press the "edit" button) and didn't find anything that said or even referred to "Hor-Legato".

    <sigh>

Obviously, further research is needed... although I didn't find anything about that in the manual.

You NEED to set the tool to legato for a particular channel, otherwise you don't get any legato at all.

well... its all there under Legato page 6. in the manual. Black on white [:)]

  • When I go to look at the tool, it is already selected for "legato" for the legato instruments.

I found what seems to be the problem. It is in the perf-leg-p sounds, across the board. The other perf-leg sounds don't have that catch at the beginning. I had set all my leg sounds to the leg-p, and that is why the problem was so obvious. The problem is that is all there is for the flute and the bassoon... so I changed the flute part to a cube part and kept the bassoon, because I love it's sound (other than the catch at the beginning).

Christian - I looked at page 6 in my manual - it only had the Introduction and Registration information. The only thing it said about the performance tool is that it was offered. [:P]

Does anyone else have these problems with the perf-leg-p sounds? Is there anyway to fix them?

    Thanks for the assistance.

  • ok.. I forgot.. what product you using? If its one from the Horizon series I.E. Opus 1, it must be set to HOR-LEGATO... not just LEGATO

I have Opus 1... and the latest version of the Tool... if you dont have that, download it. In that manual you will find some info on page 6 and on...

Btw.. when you say manual.. waht do you mean? You need the TOOL manual... that you will find with the TOOL... in the same packed file.

  • I don't have Horizon; I have the first edition cube and performance set running with Mac OSX on a dual G4 with EXS24. I was looking on page 6 of the performance manual.

"Hor-legato" must be selective to Horizon, I'm guessing?
