  • RANGEFINDER/PLAY ZONE & oct OFFSET CONFUSING AT TIMES

[:'(] please tell me this will get better in future versions/patches.
    in the bassoon for example:
the range finder says B1 to E4 even as the picture illustrates A#0 to f5.
in the performance bassoon the instrument in giga is showing A#0- to D4 !!
then when i load a leggato set it is showing me A#1 to D5. and on top of that when you raise
the numbers in the octave offset the octave lowers??
for me i want to hear exactly what i see from my score with minimal octave jumping.
in fact many times i have to create all of the performance sets from scratch
    in order to achieve this.
    thanks

  • Hello Mike,

you only have to load the preset of the bassoon performance legato setup into the legato tool.

Here you get the right setup, the bassoon should be transposed right, and any printed score should also be correct.

Only a short explanation, why the gigamapping is different.
We have to control 24 stereo dimension with the legato mode.
Gigastudio only supports 16 dimension, so we have to split the up and down intervalls into two regions on the keyboard.

The legato tool is managing this special mapping scheme automatically, so if you play an up intervall, it stays in the lower range, if you play a down intervall it transposes four octaves up.

Now we have to place the 8 octaves on the available 127 keys which are availabel in Midi.

An instrument which is originally played in a low register like double basses, the lower range of the mapping doesn't have to be transposed, a violin has to be transposed 2 octaves down, because it would not be possible to map it without reaching the limit of the highest midikey.

Therefore the performance tool offers the octave correction.

If I didn't make any mistakes with the legato tool presets, you don't have to think about all these mapping workarounds.

    best wishes
    Herb

  • thanks i don't have it in front of me but i think the bassoon preset
was a octave off or just one or 2 of the notes was off.
