  • Mac Problems

    Hi,

I recently bought a selection of Vienna Instruments for use on my new intel imac that I have also just bought to use in conjunction with the VI and Logic Pro 7. Unfortunately, Logic is not recognising the AU instrument section of the program, despite using the AU Manager in Logic as instructed in the FAQ.

To verify whether this was a Mac problem or a VI problem I installed the software and licence onto my G4 Powerbook (PPC), and the VI instruments were recognised immediately in Logic Pro 7 on this computer!!

My suspicions tell me that it might be an intel glitch, but I'm offering it to you experts out there who might have some suggestions.

Also, has anybody noticed any significant improvements using the intel macs...? Logic is behaving quite erratically on my iMac and despite it working "natively" with the intel chips, I don't see any major gains.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Andy

  • Hi,

did you install the proper version of Vienna Instruments Software for intel-based Macs (you´ll find it in our User area)?

<Vienna Instruments Software Installer OS X Intel 1.10>

In fact the performance with intel-based Macs has changed for the better significantly. Logic works fine here too.

    Best regards,

    Maya

    Hi Maya:

Information on Intel Macs running VSL VI has been rather cryptic. The last Mac benchmarks posted were on a 2.5 Dual with no updated info since then, to the best of my knowledge. I thought there would be a proper Intel report added to the other benchmarks-- perhaps this info is scattered throughout the forum, and I will do a search for this info.

But with such significant changes in processors over the past year from Core Duo to Core 2 Duo to Quad Cores, I am certain that we are not looking at improvements measured by a factor of 2 with each CPU upgrade.

So, what *are* we looking at in terms of instances and streaming? The last PPC claim was for 24 instances with a modicum of RAM

Is there anything more specific and official about these improvements that can be reported?

  • Thanks for replying.

Do you think it might have something to do with the version of Logic that I'm running...?

I'm on 7.1 not 7.2 - still waiting for the upgrade from Apple.

    Cheers,

    Andy

  • I think you need to upgrade to Logic 7.2 - which has been around for a while. It's the first version to support Intel natively.

    Martin

  • Just installed the Logic 7.2 upgrade and everything is now working fine!!!

    Cheers to all,
