  • License unknown when key is moved to different PC

I have run in to a strange problem with one of my syncrosoft usb-keys.
I have installed the license for Elements ( and others as well ) on a key and all the license's shows up nicely on my main daw's control center when the USB key is inserted.
BUT when inserted into the slave where its supposed to operate - the element
license is represented by a "Unknown application" license when looking in the syncrosoft controlcenter.
The rest of the installed licenses are intact.

    How do I correct this??

  • Maybe you have on the slave an older version of the syncrosoft LCC?

  • hi herb
No, if its anythng its newer - I just installed this computer and everything is
upto date. But perhaps its a problem if the version is actually newer than the
    one on my main daw.

But its working nicely with the rest of the licenses on the same usb-key:
( Percussion and orchestral strings )

  • you should definately check the version of LCC on the machine where elements do not show up - there has been a license database update between percussion and elements and the message (*unknown applikation*) is clear and well-known.

unfortunately the filenames do not contain a version number so it is easy to mix them up - compare using the properties of the file ...

  • Thx CM

well - I checked the versions and they were identical - but not upto date,
so I upgraded everything to the newest syncrosoft and now the license
    shows up on both.

Still puzzled to why it only appeared on one of the machines beforehand,
but I'll attribute it to the ghost in the machine [:)]

  • a possible explanation: formerly the license conrtol center had an option *update license database* - AFAIK this has been disabled a while ago. so where your internet machine had probably a newer license database the version of the LCC itself is in fact the same.

so in a certain sense it has really been the ghost in the machine [;)]

  • well - it seems I'm no longer haunted by the ghost [:D]

  • Well I spend 4 hours tracking down why it didn't work in my new Mac, also was plagued with the "Unknown application" error... Although I was pretty sure to have downloaded the latest Syncrosoft version, I hadn't, my new Mac stilled used an old license control center, probably an override from another soft synth using Syncrosoft.

  • i noticed this lately during an install of cubase 4 ... if you don't read the displayed dialogs very carefully the license control center will be overwritten with an older version ... not a very clever method to configure an installer IMO ...
