  • No English Horn, No Bass orchestra, So far…

As I sent this request to the 2 available mail adress (support and VSL admin c.marin) with no asnwer, i'll try this forum.

Unfortunatly, I have 2 missing instruments: English Horn and Bass orchestra

Loading the English Horn bring an error showing a list of 30 sample files (yes it's a VI patch, not a VSL), here is the transcript:
    Cannot find/English Horn I wav/wav/02 Dynamics/01 ohne Vibrato/EH_cre2_2s_p-mf/EH_cre2_2sp-mf_E3
It has been installed correctly but nothing shows up.
    Same story for every patch.

    …………………………………………………………………………………………………

The Bass Orchestra doesn't show up
    I've done anything I could
I've run the Vienna Instruments Directory Manager, removed the existing Basse Orchestra folder
and did the "add folder" to it but still I don't get it, it doesn't show up.
    No error window, just nothing…
    I've downloaded all the updates.

I tried to restart several time my computer, repair permissions, can't succed.

I've a dual 1.8 G5, 4 Go ram, OSX 10.4.8, and the latest VI softwares.

Any help would be very nice

  • dear laurent,
unfortunately we cannot find an email from you on both mentioned accounts, sorry if it didn't reach our desk.

the issue you are describing usually means there _is_ some data missing (or possibly permissions are not sufficient)

where is your custom folder? has it read&write permissions?
since i'd assume you have eg. strings installed since almost a year now ... have you moved the data somewhen to another location? is everything stored locally?

another idea ... do you still have the expired all application demo license on your ViennaKey? if so please try to remove it in the LCC.

  • Thanks for your quick answer cm.
I knew this question would surface, one year after I bought the VI:
I still continue to use the VSL as a complementary library or for lighter HD use on a laptop. Furthermore, lots of work, stress and a new baby, and here you go, one year already, at light speed.

So nothing has changed, I've never had access to the English Horn I and the Bass Orchestra.

My custom folder is on my main HD, read&write permissions were repaired a lot of time. No data were moved. The VI library is on an external drive.
Using the Vienna Instruments Directory Manager, I've deleted the 2 missing instruments, and added them "clean" by carefully locating them again.
May I send you the corresponding screenshots ?

Thanks, hope we'll find an issue.

  • laurent, i didn't mean to repair permisions (using disk utility, which is nevertheless a good idea from time to time) but the permissions of your custom folder.
first please look within directory manager to which location your custom folder is set - then browse to this location in the finder and check with apple-I if this folder has read&write permissions (for you as logged in user), if not set permissions to read and write.

then i'd recommend to remove all references to data (in DM) and add them again, preferrably using drag&drop from a finder window.

also please make sure your energy saving settings do not allow your external disk (where data is stored) to sleep.

of course you can send us a screenshot - we aprecciate every detailed information.

  • ok
the custum folder was already read & write
i've deleted all references in the Directory Manager window (empty)
and did a drag & drop.
In Energy saving, HD sleep was desactivated.

Still the Bass Orchestra does'nt show up
and any English Horn I preset lead to a pop up window error with a long list of samples and their path.

    i send you the screenshots.

  • A computer restart could also be helpful after removing the files from Directory manager (on Mac OSX). With Bass Orchestra you mean the basses of Orchestral Strings II?

If you are at last not succesful, than I think your database has gone corrupted and only a new install of the DVDs would help.

    best
    Herb

  • just to understand - does bass orchestra mean orchestral strings II doublebass? id yes, please doublecheck the references to that folder is added in the directory manager.
reboot after any action taken regarding licenses or filepaths to make sure everything is re-read properly
    christian

    edit: haha - i can't beat herb [:D]

  • Thanks to both of you [[;)]]
This is "24 Basses Orchestra" part of "orchestral strings II"

    After a restart, nothing new.
So the only solution is to reinstall all the corresponding DVD's (Woodwinds I & Orchestral Strings II) even if the problems are not quite identical ?
(does anyone had this "list of sample" bug already ?)

Is there (on mac OS X) any file to delete that could reset anything ?

    Thanks again

    Laurent

  • just a very vague idea ... create a new custom folder and change the location in directory manager to this folder - repeat all steps mentioned above before taking the plunge to re-install
