  • A new Logic controller for Vienna

I've just finished a new improved Logic environment controller for Vienna Instruments. The PVC.

The PVC allows you to very quickly reassign the output type of your pitchwheel, modwheel, sustain pedal, volume pedal and notes so that all the main parameters of Vienna Instruments perform section can be quickly controlled.

    Other features include:

    1. CC1 reverser which makes 2 way vertical matrix cell switching more intuitive. (highlighted cells move vertically in same direction as modwheel)

    2. Keyswitch to CC converter. Note ons can be converted to CC so that you can still use keyswitches, but will not get the notes showing up in your score.

    3. CC quantiser. For 2 way, 3 way or 4 way cell switching. This removes all the unnecessary CC data that clogs up your event list.

Once again I'd be very grateful for any opinions, bug discoveries etc.

    Complete with instruction manual

    Thanks

  • Hi Pete,

Damn, I was just getting to grips with the old one! Great stuff.

    Regards

    Dave Hage

  • BTW, by visiting your website I bought your old Keyboard sample, nicely done, thanks

  • This is very generous of you, Pete. I've not been using Logic lately, but your utility may very well change that. Thanks for sharing.

BTW-- love the site-- a wealth of info.

Question: How effective is the cat with HF absorption? [:P]

Ah ! So I'm not the only one thinking the cells don't move in the right direction.

Works a treat, as long as doen't start molting in the Spring.

Thanks everyone for your kind words (and donations for the EXS stuff)

  • Hello Pete,

I just installed your note velocity controller 'note velocity to CC74' in the (for me after years still unclear) Logic environment window. As you suggest I copied and pasted it in the clicks and ports window and it cabled automatically to the monitor in and then out to 'recording and thru'. (is this the same as 'sequencer input'?). So far so good I thought.

In VI I assigned controller 74 to the master filter frequency. (I do this by control clicking on the filter fader in the perform window, then go to the map control window and choose as 'source' control change and as 'controller' 74.

Now when I hit a note the 'source' jumps to SPEED, and that is not what I want.
    What do I do wrong?

    Greetings,

    Gerard

  • Hello Pete,

As you told me before, I should not have done both things in VI, as one overrides the other. So now I just assigned the filter in the map control window and did nothing to the fader. Problem: I don't think it works.
I see nothing moving in VI.

My other question is: how do I install the range-limiter in the environment?
I don't know where to in- and output the cables.
My environment consists of a 'physical input', a keyboard 'input notes', a 'input view', and a 'to recording and thru'. Yours has two monitors and some other things. Should I copy this whole thing (note velocity to CC74 + monitors + range-limiter etc.) and paste these into my own environment?

    Greetings,

    Gerard

  • I just tested, the first time it didn't work, the second time it did. Could be that VI is a bit buggy???.

Also make sure you have selected "Vel to CC74" instead of All thru in the purple box of the environment. You should see note on/off and CC74 in the Monitor out when you play your keyboard.

You must not use the perform control to assign in this case, as it needs to get both the note ons as well as the CC74, the note ons seem to activate the fader before the CC74 gets there. So you must use the map control to assign CC74 to filter. As I said it may take one or two goes for it to "stick".

In the environment you need to copy the whole thing from my environment and put it between Physical input and Sequencer Input. (I imagine "recording and thru" must the same thing in another version of Logic.

"Input notes" is a virtual keyboard. It just sends notes if you click on it. You can delete it or keep it if you think it might be useful, "Input View" is just a MIDI monitor, like the monitors in my environment it does nothing just shows you wahr MIDI info is passing thriugh that cable.

You can safely delete either of these but I would recommend you just delete input view. You can then cable the keyboard thingy to my purple box, and my monitor out to your recording & thru. The range limiter needs to be cabled exactly as it is in my environment, hence copy and paste the lot as is.

At some stagge I wil make a "macro" of this. That means it will just be one control panel with all the cables protected, (like the PVC) a bit more bulletproof.

Let me know if you get it working or not, good luck.

  • I just uploaded a new "Note To Velocity" macro. This now has a fader to send CC74 so you can assign it to the fader in Viennas Perform Control without playing any notes to confuese it into thinking you want "speed"

  • Hello Pete,

It works, and it is great!!
So much more expression from the saxophones this way!
    Thank you very much indeed!
