CM, if IIRC you have been the first user who received such a linked license because of your respective situation (at that time it has been a kind of beta-test). meanwhile this solution is available for all collections.

C'mon, even Native Instruments let you run their stuff on 2-4 machines at the same time, and I always thought of VSL as a very generous business[:)] I have several, and wouldnt mind buying more, SyncoSoft dongles, so using a dongle for each computer I want to run the instrument on, isn't a problem. Wouldn't there be a way to simply obtain an extra license to put on another dongle, so I can have a license for the same product on 2-4 dongles?

As soon as you have the linked licence you can run extended and standard on both PC's.

I dont know the techanicalities of the linked licence but essentailly you put both dongles in the same PC and kind of copy the licence to another dongle (via syncrosoft). Its a releatively painless process.

simon, NI works with a kind of software-activation (about which opinions differ AFAIK), similar has been the performance tool activation with the sample libraries because it was clear at that time no one can run the complete orchestral package on a single machine.

now licenses are stored on the ViennaKey and you can spread the Vienna Instruments collections across multiple computers (up to 15 so far if you have all collections).
now there could be certain setups where it seems to come unhandy having to split instruments exactly as they are related to licenses, say someone likes to have solo, chamber, orchstral, appassionata violins on one computer and violas, ect on another or has to split the brass ocross two machines.

this is the point where linked licenses can step in and help creating an individual configuration. note: this is not intended to allow simultaneous use of a single license say in a studio on several workstation for different projects by different users, so we reserve the right to decide individually about issuing linked licenses.
IMO users who beleive to need all collections available on all computers should rethink their setup ... they would highly probable run into very other problems.

one of the advantages of having licenses on a key is that you can take your stuff to which location you like without having to un-authorize/re-authorize something on a specific computer (very similar to logic and others), running Vienna Instruments from your notebook too or whatever situation you can think of, but always making sure you are the one who has licensed it.
clearly issuing additional licenses would sooner or later result in illegal offers of Vienna Instruments on ebay ...

cm, thanks for your response. I understand completely, and right now I am not sure if I will need to be able to run the same instrument on several machines at the same time. As you say, I can rework my setup to make it work fine. I just like the freedom of being able to use all machines as I like, that is where I come from with GigaStudio. But on the other hand, having your licenses on a dongle without need for looking up serial numbers etc has its advantages too.
