  • I'm new - just saying 'Hi'

Just wanna say 'Hi'. Been looking at VSL for several years and today I finally took the plunge. I ordered the VI cube and should be getting it by Friday. I'm excited - hope it opens new doors for me. I plan to just use it in standalone mode or in Nuendo while I learn it. Anyway, I have no specific questions just yet but I have a feeling I'll be back with some later. And, please forgive my littleness for now. Me just getting the cube is probably no big deal to many of you here - I see a lot going on in these pages with some real heavy power users with multi-machine setups and several instances and all kinds of unfamiliar new words. I have a lot to learn. For now, I'll consider my weekend successful if I can just get the solo strings installed and get a simple violin fired up and make it play a tad better than my Triton. Ah, the journey of it all. Maybe someday I too will enjoy a powerful setup, and some new person will join the forum and remind me of my first days of the VSL experience.

    Cheers,
    Tiger

  • Very cool, Tiger.

Yes, there are lots of power users here, but many of us are still using humble setups and dare to post here at the risk of embarrassment. But, don't be intimidated. This is a good place with a lot of helpful people-- especially the VSL team.

You're going to really enjoy this collection!!

    Cheers and welcome,
    JWL

  • Hello Tiger,

what is your current set up? what gear are you using?

Are you PC or Mac (whatever that is) [*-)]

Are you a hobbyist, just starting pro or a seasoned campaigner?

    Do you play golf?

    Just curious

  • Hi Tiger!

  • Thanks, JWL, Dave TubaKing, and rino amato, for the warm welcomes. I can tell this a nice, friendly place to be.

    To answer your question, Dave:
My current setup: Mac G5 2.0Ghz with 2.5G mem, ProTools HD3, Nuendo... basic project studio. I have a Triton keyboard for MIDI input (and I use the sounds too). I also have V-Drums that I record MIDI from to drive DFHS (I expect to try this with the VSL percussion stuff too!).

I'm a seasoned (grey hair) hobbyist, but I sometimes wonder about going pro at some point. I still have much to learn, like how to compose and orchestrate (I can sort of do those now, but way to slowly, hunt and peck style using my ears - I need to study more theory). I'm really just a generalist, wearing too many hats to be good at any one thing.

Golf? Well, I played a few times - really enjoyed it and thought I would take it up someday, but I guess for now I have too much on my plate (plus, once VSL arrives I'll be lucky if I remember to feed myself and get some occasional sleep [:D] )

What is your setup? Are you pro, hobbyist, etc.., What kind of music do you make. Do you play Tuba (I love the way they sound, and trombones too)? I'm guessing you play Golf.
