It's not shocking at all, I have people telling me that I can install on my current drive, then I have people telling me that a seperate hard drive is a requirement, so with someone like me who is new to Vienna Library's, you can see how it becomes confusing. Cheers

You spend way too much time online Simon, you sound bitter about something. What's wrong my man, no girls in Denmark?

I wonder how you know how much time I spend online. Do you have some spycam installed here that I haven't seen? Please, move beyond the cliches... As I said - work on the attitude problem...

The problems you are encountering are self-made.... Had it been a faulty DVD, it would have been something else. But this is BASIC BASIC knowledge, that to install something that takes up XXX mb's, you need at least that amount of free space on your harddrive. Even my mom knows that.

  • simon, i'm always trying to take into consideration our users are primary musicians and not computer wizards ... therefore it sometimes happens, something which might be obvious for the IT-pro doesn't look relevant for the music-pro.
although i'm trying to ask or explain things as simple as possible sometimes my wording becomes too technical or leads to misunderstanding, also related to a sort of language-barrier ...

i'm sure we can work it out even without the help of mom and dad

  • cm, haha yeah let's hope that. But blaming VSL for this is just plain silly. If I buy a sample collection it is my problem, and my problem alone, to find the space to install the thing. Heck, that's the least of problems that can occur.

  • Thanks for the help fella's.

Unfortunately, at this point I can only conclude it is a defective DVD.

I just tried it with an external DVD unit I have, free from heat issues, and the same thing happened. 4 times in a row.

Besides, the DVD player in my 2 gig G5 has never faltered, and in fact, has successfully loaded the 3 other Vienna VI libraries I own. And just a few days ago it loaded another sample library without incident.

I'll certainly be calling Ilio tomorrow morning, to see about a replacement disk. If there's anything else I could try, I'm all ears...

Hey, one thing I have noticed, that may be my ignorance, is that icon of the package.info on all my other Vienna VI DVD install disks is a white piece of paper with the corner folded over. Just like all the other content icons on the disk.

But on the Appasionata DVD, the package.info icon is a green box, with .exec on it, which is what I've seen before when it's a windows app.

Any chance that has anything to do with it?

"Cannot Read Installation Package (file is corrupted?)"
    .

I got that several times while trying to install. In the end everything did install but took 5 very frustrating days to get the symphonic cube library installed.

It seems this can be caused by the DVD drive overheating, so maybe starting from a fresh boot up after resting it is required.

I also had many errors telling me to install DVD 2 when that was the one I just installed. In the end I think its all OK. You just need to persevere, be patient, repair lots of permissions

  • Thanks Pete. I actually had tried first thing this morning, and I repaired permissions more times in the past 2 days then I care to admit.

However, Paul at tech support encouraged me to try another computer, if I could. I was skeptical because I had tried an external DVD drive, and still had the same results.

However, I was able to install the content DVD onto my laptop, after downloading and installing the syncrosoft license and Vienna Library installer, onto that computer as well.

After the install was complete, I simply moved the .dat files over to my main sample hard drive, and then used the Vienna Directory manager to recognize the new folders.

So I'm finally up and running. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions.
