  • Octave Lowering?

Is it possible to lower or raise instruments an octave? Either in the VI or in the sequencer - for instance if I wanted my Epic Horns to be even darker and go lower?

If not it would be nice

  • If you mean extending the range and altering the actual sound, no. Octave and step transpositions can be done in "Edit Cell" in VI, but that won't change the timbre or total compass of playback.

You could bounce the passage to a wave and then (if you're in Logic) lower the pitch and play with the timbre in Sample Editor > Factory > Time and Pitch machine.

  • Unfortunately the bend range can only be set to max. +/- 200 cents, otherwise you could have used the pitchbend.
Maybe we could talk Herb&Co into increasing the max.bend range
    to +/- 1 octave ?

    Could be nice for fx's

  • I'm not usually one to bitch about the "closed format" of VI since VSL have done a great job on most cases. But in this instance I will bitch a bit [:D]

It would be greta to be able to be able to extend the range of instuments (ala kontakt) and to be able to lower the sound an octave.

  • The engine can't do more than 200 cent, because this depends to the streaming algorythm. More pitch bend range would increase the playbacktime (one octave up is the double tempo).
Large pitch bend values = larger preload buffer size = less samples could be loaded (or unstable streaming engine)
That's why the programmers decided to design the core engine this way, and the pitchbend is limited.

  • The buffer size won't be problem when transposing down but I don't suppose Herb will sanction the development of an asymmetric pithcbend +200/-1200 cent? [[;)]]

I just got another idea for you Christian - use a realtime pitch-stretch plugged into the track strip, to transpose the output from the VI.

  • Real time stretch plug? Any links? That's new to me [:)]

  • Logic has one though the quality is not as good as off-line processing.

Being able to extend the VI's range appears to be a popular request. Let's hope Herb looks for ways to achieve it!!

  • Hi
There's an old one i Sonar too...just tried it - sounds awfull when transposing more that +/- 200 Cents!
But then I tried the pitch pedal from my Amplitube2 - and it does the trick
all the way down to -2400 cents. The sound changes off cause - but it
does the job rather well I think.
