  • Does VI Solo Strings work in Windows 64 bit?

Simple question. Was confused by reading other threads.

  • Hi deswind
The VI is a 32-bit application and won't run on its own, in a 64-bit environment like Win x64.
However some VST hosts which are 64-bit is capable of running 32-bit applications in a wrapper. This goes for Cakewalk SONAR which can run on
Win x64 but has a bitbridge technology that allows you to run a 32-bit application as a plug-in.
(I think there is something similar in the mac world)

Thanks. I am using Sonar 6. Will the syncrosoft key have a 64 bit driver that works or is that not important?
    THANKS.

Hi - the syncrosoft driver is 32 and 64 bit for WinXP and Vista. However as the VI VST is not 64 bit there is not a lot of point running it on a 64 bit platform.

Also I am not sure whether you can run the VI (32bit) with a 64 bit syncrosoft dongle driver.

    Someone else may know though...

    Best

  • hmn good point about the dongle - not shure about the that - maybe its a problem.

But there would is a point in running the VI's in a 64-bit environment, if it behaves like other 32-bits - its true that its limited to a 4gb memory address
space - but that is per instance!!
( However - the VSL VI's use of shared memory btw instances may pose a problem in this respect )

But for other "normal" plug-ins at least, the above holds true.
