  • Are we to expect a VI 'lite' version anytime soon?

I wonder if this has been discussed at all here? I had a look but could not find any talk about such a concept either as speculation or news. I guess most people here have or want the full libraries anyway [[;)]]

But I think it would be the logical next step now that VI is properly out there ...... I'm thinking something a little (OK, a lot!) more 'consumer' with maybe one built in matrix pre configured per instrument with mod and KS control for a decent, but by no means complete, set of articulations - I'm thinking say 50 -80 GB total for the whole orchestra.

As a cheap and limited but extremely playable and intelligent orchestral virtual instrument (ie no knowledge of musical terms necessary) but still making use of these wondefully expensive VSL samples, I can see this selling very, very well. It would also offer a 'stepping stone' to VI proper, and might even be an attractive option for the pro as a quick and easy sketching tool, as well as something that could be used on a half decent laptop too!

    I know I'd buy one! [:D]

  • To me, replacing the old Performance Tool with the VI VST/AU plugin in the already existent Horizon libraries would be far more than acceptable...

  • Actually although I can see a huge market for VI lite, the Pros don't rea llyneed it. The reason I say this is that it is very easy to set up a template on a laptop that only loads the minimum number of samples. To be fair one could get away with sus and stacc only. I'm not sure how much memory this would take for a full orchestra, but it might be possible to fit this into 1.5GB.

I'll try it out when I have more time.

But we don't care at all about the pros...

  • Thanks. [:(]

  • Although I doubt it will ever happen, I would love to see this.

As a big VSL fan on a budgetI am having a hard time deciding between the different libraries, esp. bbetween the solo strings and the winds!!

So I would very much welcome an 'Opus 3', though it creates a lot of problems for the VSL team regarding what instruments to include, what articulations to include, upgrading and discounts, etc etc... And at a time when they're working very hard on so much else - new instruments such as the Choirs, and demos for new products like the Appasionata Strings - surely Opus 3 would be at the bottom of any 'to do' list. It certainly would be on mine!

At the same time, let me say that such an Opus 3 would be my first purchase.

    Ditto.

DG, I was joking, but please be compassionate with us, the rest of the world that travels by train (i.e. NOT in a Ferrari)...

Me too. However, I doubt that I could afford to run it. Between VSL and the Taxman, I'm virtually bankrupt. [:(]

I wasn't in the least bit offended. However, I don't think that I was being uncompassionate. VSL has stated that they have no plans to release a "lite" version, and if you already have the cube, then you don't really need it.

    DG

  • Don't we in effect already have a "Lite" version in the form of the Cube Standard L1's? The Extended licenses do not have to be purchased if one doesn't want them.

It seems to boil down more to an issue of price rather than function.

  • Actually an excellent point there.

Horizon Bundle costs 895 €, the Standard VI Cube 3.900 €.

    The difference should be self-evident.

Banquo, you will not ever be able to get a Ferrari if you invest in sample libraries. You should trade oil or bio-fuels, instead...

    Or write romantic novels.

"She sat by the fire, her elegant feet deep in the luxurious carpet, with her hair shining like stars in the soft, warm light. He smiled and she felt a frisson of excitement course down her lithe body, her skin tingling, almost singing in anticipation. How she longed for his touch. He reached out for 2 more Scrabble tiles, and brushed her hand. Now if she could only get rid of the letter Q............."

    A sure winner! [[:|]]

Do I get a discount for predicting this with my VSL crystal ball? [I] [[:|]]
