  • Vienna stand alone output

Vienna Instruments stand alone output default to analog 1/2 output of my MOTU 2408 MK III.
I would like to address it to an adat output so that I can return into the MOTU via Adat and record it with Audition.
I have changed the Windows Audio to an ADAT output but the Vienna Instruments keeps on using analog 1/2 output.
How can I change the audio output?
Thanks and Buon Natale, Frohe Weihnacht!!

  • I am still waiting for an answer....

  • You can't... there was a (lengthy) topic about that a couple of weeks ago.

  • Thanks for your replay, but I can't find it,
is it maybe because I only read PC topics?
can you please post a link to it?

  • Actually, it's right on the front page now : "Vienna Instruments Plugin + Standalone and Logic??". The topic was created by stevesong a few months ago.

    Here's a small excerpts from Page 2:

"What I haven't experiemented with is how to separate the audio outputs from each instance. The Vienna Instruments player allows you to select one device, e.g. RME Fireface or MOTU PCI-424 or built-in; there doesn't seem to be any way to be any more specific than that. I assume Soundflower is just another device, and it'll have the same problem. "

"Yes, I did realize this problem. In VI Stand Alone, you can only choose the audio interface - you can't choose a specific channel. So, let's say you have an interface with ADAT, you can't tell "Stand Alone 1" to go out ADAT 1-2, and then "Stand Alone 2" to go out ADAT 3-4.

    The solution could be:
    - For the VI Stand Alone 1, to go out the default outputs of your audio interface (let's say, ADAT 1-2)
    - For the VI Stand Alone 2, to go out SoundFlower, back into Plogue, and then to route the signal to ADAT 3-4.
    - For the VI Stand Alone 3, to go out Jack, back into Plogue, and then to route the signal to ADAT 5-6."

  • Thanks a lot for your reply.
"Vienna Instruments Plugin + Standalone and Logic", that's why, as a PC user, I didn't read it.
But can somebody tell us why? I have a lot of stand alone program and I can address the audio output very easily.
Is there any plan to implement this in VI?
    Ciao

  • Sergino:

We are hoping that the next version of the VI software will implement assignable audio outputs. I've found Soundflower unreliable in the sense that, once installed, I observed randomly occuring clicks and pops during attempts to record multiple virtual instrument tracks to separate audio tracks. These artifacts disappeared again when I removed SoundFlower. The solution was to bounce each track individually (in real time - -if done offline this did not work properly. (Also freezing instrument tracks in which complex VI matrices were installed- - in Logic-- did not work well as the resultant tracks then contained many errors - - e.g. instances where the wrong patch was played, etc. - - and artifacts.) Nick Batzdorf has mentioned that the RME FireFace interface and its software allow one to route audio outputs back into the interface - - so that you don't need SoundFlower.
