  • HD 6.1

Does anyone know of a good website or someone that can help me learn how to produce 6.1 music? Is there specific software I need? Hardware?

I'm currently running SONAR 5 as my sequencer, and it can do 5.1 (although I'm not exactly sure how to use it).

    Thanks in advance.

Uh, Steve ... that's a tough question. Maybe too much for a little forum-thread ... but you could try to start here:

Tomlinson Holman – 5.1 Surround Sound Up And Running

    Or here: http://emusician.com/mag/emusic_youre_surrounded/

    Or here: http://www.softwaretrainingtutorials.com/cakewalk-sonar-5.php

... there's so much info available on the Web, just try yourself and google a bit [:)]

  • Thanks, Dietz.

I had a bad feeling it would be too much to ask about [:P]. But, the job I may get requires it, so I figured I'd better ask now.

I searched Yahoo! all over the place, and couldn't find any tutorial-based systems that said how to setup 6.1 (that are free at least...).

    Thanks again!

    **EDIT**

I have a stupid question ... Do I need 6 speakers and a sub to produce 6.1 ... Will 6.1 headphones work if I do?

  • 6.1 is mostly understood as a conventional 5.1-ITU-setup with an additional surround-center-speaker.

... and no - I wouldn't try to mix in surround on headphones. Most "surround-headdphones" just do fancy psychoacoustical tricks to give you a vague impression of multichannel sound.

  • So I basically need a true 5.1 setup? Hmm....I'm going to have to play around with some stuff and see what I come up with. Thanks again, Dietz!

  • There is a very usable technical outline for surround-producion available at Grammy.com: "The Recording Academy's Producers & Engineers Wing
    Recommendations For Surround Sound Production".

    -> http://www.grammy.com/Recording_Academy/Producers_And_Engineers/Guidelines/

This is as short and concise as it gets [:)]
