  • Question about memory usage in my Quad

    Hello,

I loaded four presets Level 2 of the Saxophones as plug in for Logic into my Quad (5 Gb memory). Is there a way in which I can see how much memory I have used up now?

    Greetings,

    Gerard

  • Go to APPLICATIONS>UTLITIES>ACTIVITY MONITOR.
It witll show you how much Ram is used and how much left for each app running.

  • Hello Jamieh,

This is the first time I use Logic with VSL as plug in.
Yesterday I put in 2 extra Gb so now memory is 5 Gb. I also updated Logic to 7.2.3 so it has Quad support now, using all 4 processors.

The reason I ask is that Logic crashed having the 4 saxes in memory (total 1918 Mb) and after copying the regions with data a few times. I could see the available memory (which was already very low) decreasing every time I copied. Then Logic crashed.

I was a bit worried because I have much more memory now.
Are there things I should know to optimize the performance of my Quad (not an Intel-Mac by the way)?
    What I see now is:

    wired 2,27 Gb
    Active 344 Mb
    inactive 2,31 Gb
    in use 4,92 Gb

    Available 85 Mb
    Virtual memory 11,72 Gb
    Page in/outs 33456/275

Do I expect too much here?

I hope somebody can give some advise

    Greetings,

    Gerard

gerard, it simply seems you have maxed your G5 out ..

wired looks to me like the VSL patches
in use + available gives almost the 5GB (the difference might be related to memory fragmentation)
vitual memory is a theoretical value not relevant for sampling, where usage of a pagefile makes no sense.
i'd say you have 2,65 GB stuff loaded not related to ViennaInstruments (operating system, logic, plugins, other samples, ect)
