  • VIs and sequencing

I have watched the VI tuttorial videos and they are great at explaining VI use with the stand alone interface, but what about using them with a sequencer. I want to be able to use VIs and regular samples together (regualr samples using Giga 3.0). I can't find any info on that.

Does the stand alone interface act as a multitrack sequencer too? Or can you only record one track? Sorry if this is sounding stupid to you advanced users, but this is new to me and I am having trouble finding detailed info on VI use with sequencing software.

I REALLY want to buy some VIs, but not without knowing if I can use them the way I want to.

    Thanks,
    Mike

  • Hi Mike,

the Vienna Instruments are VST and AU instruments, and you are using one VI for one instrument or section. They are not a sequencer, they are instruments, and you need only one MIDI track for one instrument as each Vienna Instrument allows you to control all articulations!

ThereĀ“s 2 was of making use of the VST and AU versions: Have them on your sequencing computer or on a dedicated sample machine, in connection with a VST or AU host (like Forte or VSTack on a PC, or Plogue Bidule or RAX on a Mac slave).

The Vienna Instruments are not multitimbral (also, the standalone version will give you the option to control ONE instrument), so you will open the Vienna Instruments inside your sequencer.

HereĀ“s the thing with GigaStudio: The Vienna Instruments run best on a PC on an untweaked Windows XP/SP2.... whereas GigaStudio can use some tweaks in order to give you better performance, so you will have to make a decision here.... most people remove the tweaks and run XP/SP2. The best option is to have GigaStudio and the Vienna Instruments on 2 dedicated machines. DonĀ“t forget, that the Vienna Instruments can load more than double the samples GigaStudio can load AND you can make use of the 3 GB switch in, e.g., Forte, so that you can load up to 3 GB RAM (if you have them).

You can always contact our support@vsl.co.at with specific questions regarding your system and your expectations or you can contact me directly at p.steinbauer@vsl.co.at [:)]

    Hope that helps.

    Best,
