  • well, it's delicate to even talk about that and i doubt this guy is really a mac-user, but he is obviously right with some arguments.
the first thing i did after i read the G5 is out, i went to the apple-shop and started to configure a machine (as i did when the x-serve came out)
hmm, ended up (just with the memory) near $ 7.000.- and didn't have a single SCSI-controller or disk - that's inacceptable for me.
i've made any effort to get my hand on that legendary photoshop-tests over years to run them by myself - i've never been successfull, nobody seems to have them and it seems they never have been published.
let's see, what real-life experiences turn up to give us - btw: does anybody have a link to a 64-bit soundcard besides the one from SGI (which of course only has drivers for IRIX and NT/W2K)?

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • And some of us are annoyed that we can't get Giga to use more than just over half the memory in an XP system!

But that is a good point about the RAM price - although I think that having even 4GB (which would cost roughly $700 in the U.S.) of accessible memory would make it a very nice VSL machine. The question is whether you're better off with three Giga machines for the same price as one Mac!

  • So ... if I have a G5 I will be able to compose like John Williams and have many more calls for projects ?

  • I would say I'm interested in the machines, but Apple's never interested me. I've never been able to use them comfortably and I have never 'plauyed' with a fast mac in my life (last one I remember was a fully loaded G4). My opinion of the company also dropped when they spat out commercials about "Macs are KEWL! PCs SUXURS!" like a child.
