  • Trouble with Sonar and VI working together...

    Hi all,

The VI is behaving extremly weird in sonar 5 producer.

I'll try to explain but its different every time.

Basically I launch Sonar and setup a VI track, open the VI and load a
preset, matrix, or patch. At this point everything is fine. I can play and
    record with no problem.

The problem starts when I remove the loaded preset, matrix, or patch
and load another preset, matrix, or patch. Portions of the GUI disappear.
Its always the wheel and the display above it.

Once this happens I then get a lot of latency when I trigger any note and the note no longer sustains. I only get the attack an dthen it stops.

If I then remove the preset, matrix, or patch and try to load another one I get a huge window filled with directory locations at the bottom of which is a message that it can't find the samples.

I have to close and relaunch Sonar to fix this issue but then it all starts all over again.

I can't work like this and I have some music to submit next week.

    Any thoughts?

  • I'm using Sonar 5 producer as well. I haven't experienced these same issues, but I've found a few oddities of my own.

First obvious question - are you patched to 5.2?

Another question - does VI play normally if you close the instrument window? I've experienced glitching and/or dropped samples while the window is open, but as soon as I close it, everything plays fine. Not sure how to explain that - none of my other VST plug-ins have exhibited this behavior. However, I am using a new SATA II HD controller with two new drives for the samples, so it's possible there's an issue there.

  • Hello,

we are investigating the behaviour your describe and we are having a hard time to replicate many of the bugs you find, but we´ll try harder [:)].

Dragon 33, when did you send your support mail? We´d like to find out what happened, as we´re committted to support you within at least 24 hours:

    Hi James,

    Thanks for you reply!

    Yeah, I'm on Sonar 5.2.

I have not checked wether the VI plays fine when closed. The fact that these issues happen in both stand alone and as a VST in Sonar tells me that might not to the trick but I will try anything at this point.

    Hi Paul,

    Thanks for your reply!!

I will try a few more things tonight to see if they help at all. If not I will reinstall WindowsXP Pro <gr> tonight and see if that helps.

Since a lot of my issues are GUI could my video card have an issue with the VI?

I don't have ANY other problems on my computer at all and it runs like a dream
    all around.

Can you tell me what the directory structure is supposed to be in the DM?

What I have done is installed the library accross 5 SATA drives. Each drive has a folder for a set in it. For instance E:\\Strings I

Within this folder are the sub folders E:\\Strings I\\01 Violins...

I'm at work so I don't remember the exact folder names.

In the DM, inorder to minimize the amount of folders, I have added the "01 Violins" folder but not the root folder "Strings I". It seems to have no issues because of this since I can initially load the library in the VI.

Should I have this directory structure in the DM:

    E:\\Strings I
    E:\\Strings I\\01 Violins
    E:\\Strings I\\02 Violins

    right now I have:

    E:\\Strings I\\01 Violins
    E:\\Strings I\\02 Violins

But how its laid out on the Hard drive is:

    E:\\Strings I
    E:\\Strings I\\01 Violins
    E:\\Strings I\\02 Violins

    Could this be an issue?

  • Just wanted to give you all an update.

I reinstalled WindowsXP Pro SP2 a few nights ago and boy what a difference it made.

So far not a single crash and I have loaded and unloaded all sorts of files. Everything plays correctly. The VI even loads MUCH faster, about half the time!

Thanks for all your support and to VSL for making such an amazing product.
