  • Bump for MacPro tests. [:D]

  • These tests will most surely be very interesting.

However, it seems the real limitation is more a memory than a performance one.

Even though the Mac Pros are more powerful than a Quad, I doubt, if you can't go over the 2.5GB barrier, that this will be very helpful [:'(]

    Jerome

  • Jerome that is not entirely true.....

As it will be interesting to see if the Intel can handle "decoding" loss-less compression better or worse......

So in other words does our polyphony count decrease or increase with the new processors..

    SvK

  • Hey SvK...

in another thread, I realized that I could load up to 3.25GB of memory [:)] We were even talking about the possibiliy to load numerous Stand Alone VI apps... you might find this thread interesting...

In that case, the power from a Mac Pro tower would definitely be useful (if we can figure out a way to solve that audio output issue...)

The name of the thread is "Vienna Instruments Plugin + Standalone and Logic??"

    Jerome

  • Hey Jerome.....

    I'll check it out...thanx

    SvK

  • Jerome....

    I've been down that road...It won't work

All memory of VI instruments goes to an app called "vsl-server"

So...If you run logic with VI instances, the memory for those VIs goes to "VSL-Server"

Now...in addition, you load a stand-alone VI-instance...It's memory goes to the SAME place. VSL-server....so it is not possible to break the memory barrier,

    sorry,

    all the best,

    SvK

  • SvK:

On pg. 2 of the thread to which Jerome refers there is a screen shot in which the Activity Monitor clearly appears to show separate memory partitions for the VI standalone and VSL server. This is in accord with my own experience.

Jerome states that he successfully loaded 7GB of samples on one Mac. Is your experience different?

  • SvK, it doesn't seem you've read the whole thread, as your reaction was also my original reaction [:)]

    Believe me, it works...

first (quick-)tests with the pro-books are promising, a *real* macPro will be on it's way soon. certain members of our team are on vacancy currently, so please don't expect the results for such tests too soon.
