    Hello!

I just got the Performance Set, and I am so excited and happy with it...
It has taken my mockups to a new level...thank you for a n amazing product..

Now, since the pro edition is coming up, I have a few questions about the VIP upgrades. I understand that I get the VIPO price if I purchase the Pro edition Performance set, but which price will I pay if I order full orchestra Pro Ed set? VIP or something between the VIP and full price?

Second question is about the repetition tool. Altough I have read the manual, and checked out Herbs examples, I still have some problems so I would like to know what am I doing wrong.
I'll try to be clear, but I'm not best with words so just bear with me..

I mostly step write my stuff in key editor, and I just feel that I don't have the control over repetition tool...

I have put the C1 triger in the begining of the sequence and that works, but then when I put B0 just before the last note, the last note some times play the last note sample, some times it plays 2 repetitions, and I didn't managed to conclude when or why? In this example I just use the first C1 sequence with all the steps turned on ("1")...

The key switches are on the same track..does it mather if the keyswitch note is overlaping one of the "playing" notes?

Or is it my configuration? I run SONAR in to Maple Tools on "thru" in to Performance Tool which goes in to GS160...all on one machine...is there some bug that I missed while searching the threads..
Or am I just plain stupid?...LOL!

Also any tips and tricks on using repetition tool without having the cube for basic notes would be greatly apreciated. I write a lot of big percussive orchestrations, so I really want to master the repetition tool...
..thinking about it, would in it have been logical that you have included some sort of stacato patches in Performance Set as well? I feel they are very important for getting the most out of repetition tool?

Also I was wondering...I heard some talks about the free updates when the Pro is out, what will be there for Performance set users?

Anyways, thanks again for giving us such a great product, it sounds so good, the recordings are just perfect....[:)]

  • Welcome Lex,

Regarding the VIP price, if you are owner of the Performance set you have got the Vip price option only for the Performance set.
To make inbetween prices would be to complictated and is not managable with our distributors.

A few hints for the repetition tool:

First it's very important that all function keys are outside of the playrange.
If you work mostly in key editors, I would try to make no overlaps between function keyevents and real notes. This could help, if there are any problems.
The "Auto OFF" slider enables you to work with short notelength, because the note OFF is sent with a delay.
It helps in playing live on the keyboard, because you don't have to edit the notelength afterwards in an editor, but also gives you the opertunity to insert functionkeys between notes.

Another option is (in the meantime I prefer it), to setup a complete presetline with the last note. For example on the 2nd key (C#1).

The setup for a rep9 looks like this:

    0:0:0:0:0:0:0:0:1

so if you need a last note during a longer repetition phrase. you can also insert C#1 as function key. Maybe it works better for you.

I would suggest to test the different options with slow (legato repetitions) in the beginning, it's easier to find out, if everything is running right.

    best wishes
    Herb

  • Thanks Herb,

    Both are great advices...

Yes I should definetly try out if everything is ok with slow legato rep...

Starting to bang stacattos at 140bpm right out of box, is not a very smart aproach...lol..[;)]

And what about including stacatos as a part of Perf set? It does make sence, don't you think?

    Thanks again,

    AleX

  • Lex,

you'll be able to get some staccatos by the way you program the repetition tool. It's not the most elegant soloution but it can work. Buying the cube may be more than you wish to pay right now but I can tell you from my perspective it is highly worth it. In America (I'm not sure where you are) I have an analogy that fits. The Performance tool is like when you were in high school dating a high school cheerleader. Very flashy but a little high maintence. The cube is like the pretty girl with glasses who hangs out in the library. A lot more substance and less maitence. Well it works for me.

There is a thread started by Leon Willet currently residing just below this one on upgrade policy. Some of the posts are dated but it gives you an idea of the upgrades coming. One thing you will find is VSL is hands on. More so than any company I have dealt with. VSL is a massive undertaking but the president (Herb) is right there answering questions on a regular basis. How cool is that!
