  • Appassionata violins, am I crazy to consider this move?

Hi I have just made the big decision of getting on the VSl steam train or rocket train more aptly and have just ordered Orchestral Stgs 1 and 2 Extended. Am I absolutely crazy in going backwards and thinking of buying PRO EDITION stgs in order to secure the Appassionata...are they that fantastic that i should spend another AUD$1000??...to just get this set of what people tell me are unbeleivable violins for that ovely lush sound, is this all true??. This is a turning point for me in that I have decided to invest this money in my studio and will inevitably over time buy the whole library. However I need the professionals to come to the table and tell me if I am nuts in doing this. One of the posters on this forum just recently, JWL, gave me his great advice in buying the meat and potatoes of the string library before going anywhere else...I have also gone SOLO VI, but now my budget is starting to tighten and I am still interested in Woodwinds 1 VI standard and Chamber 1 Standard...so it's down to CHAMBER/WOODWINDS standard or APPASSIONATA? Being Italian love the name BTW, Appassionata, What happens if they release a library Appassionatta next week...knowing my good fortune that would happen. Some help please or therapy from VSL lust is what I possible really need.

    Thanks for the advanced advice...
    Joey

  • I think Joey is an excellent name for anyone from Australia.

  • There was a show on Australian TV called Skippy and Litlte Joey was really the big star in the show, he helped mum with some of the most unbelievable detective cases out in the bush. Thought you would like to know where the Joey bit came from...ha!

  • Much as I like the AP I don't think that I would spend a lot to get them, as they are not so extensive as other collections. However, when you are pricing up do remember that the Pro Edition will give you a discount on the VI Extended, so do your sums very carefully to see what order you need to buy things in.

Good advice there Joey. You have to understand that it's not the easiest thing in the world to advise someone from half way round the world to go out and spend their hard earned cash just on buying signals alone. What if someone say's 'Yeah Joey, go out and spend everything you've got' and it turns out to be totally wrong for you? You sound like you need to do a lot more digging around for yourself.

Skippy? Oh Christ - why did you have to remind me of THAT!

  • Joey,
My advice is to ask you for a little patience... [;)]

  • [[:|]] ...how much "little", Martin?

It, the hidden news, seems to be very... appetizing ! [:D]

  • Not being a VSL insider, I'll just blurt out my personal spec...

Lots of users who did not have the whole PE and VI wanted the App. Vlns.

VSL is too generous a company to limit the use of something like App. Vlnss to certain users 100% forever.

I've been quite eager to learn not only about new instruments to be added to the collection but also what new articulations might be added to strings and other existing sections. App. Vlns. has been a wonderful teaser in this regard.

My quiet wish list has included the following:

    1. Additional articulations with App. Vlns
    2. Appassionata Cellos
    3. Appassionata Vlas and KBs

I've only wished for such things and know nothing of VSL's plans at all-- but Martin's *wink* has certainly raised an eyebrow!!

My question leaps way forward --- How many more computers do I need to buy as the Cube turns into a bigger monster than it already is? [:D]
