  • Key? What ViennaKey?

    Hi,

just recieved my Chamber Strings Instrument (from Best Service) as an upgrade to my Horizon series Chamber Strings for EXS 24.

I've tried to register and install to no avail for about an hour now, and i am mildly frustrated: It seems it all comes back to having a "ViennaKey".

I have no such thing. Please explain to me when why and where I should have obtained it, and what I should do now without it...

    Kind regards,

    Asger

  • Seems you need to buy the Vienna Key. Not included in the box..

  • Thank you.

When ordering the upgrade from www.vsl.co.at I was not informed that this was necessary. Would it be an idea to make this information a little more obvious?

Now I have to wait another week or two to get it up and running, and I find it a bit dissatisfying.

Apart from that I'm very happy with my strings!

    Kind regards

    Asger

  • WHAT!? Are you joking? You have to buy the key separate? So if I order, say, the Solo Strings from VSl.co.at, i get a box in the post with dvd's, manual, and no license to use it?

Naturally I don't mind paying the extra 20 quid, but this absolutley needs to be made mroe obvious.

  • - same here: Don't mind the money, but since I have to log in to get the upgrade rebate the system obviously already knows what I've got and - especially - what I haven't got.

So the logical and serviceminded thing to do would be to have the system say - by itself - when you order; ooops, we can see that you don't have a key! Buy Buy Buy...

I'm sure this will be corrected shortly!

Otherwise the advertising and selling system is illegal according to danish law; when I bought the Vienna Instrument I was given the impression that the amount payd would cover averything need to get up and running, but no.

Feels a bit like buying a car, getting into it to drive home after having paid, and realizing it has no steering wheel. And when you ask for, it the dealer says; "oh, okay, you wan't to be able to drive it too... -that'll be another 20 quid!".

Sorry to ramble on, but the more I think about it, the more wrong it feels,

    regards

    Asger

  • welcome mrbassdk,
we love to read arguments regarding *law and order* here ...

anyway, the system requirements mention (besides other prerequisites) the need of a ViennaKey - as you need a DVD-drive to install and something to *trigger* the ViennaInstruments like a keyboard or a sampler or another host ... and of course a computer.

the reason why the ViennaKey is not included in any product package is, because usually you'd want to have all your licenses on a single key or one key per computer (and we don't know on how many computers you're intending to run ViennaInstruments) and on the other hand a ViennaKey comes for free with every full Symphonic Cube.

additionally you can use any other Syncrosoft USB protection device to download ViennaInstruments licenses (like Steinberg keys) - jut keep in mind older models might not have enough space to hold all licenses of a Symphonic Cube. you can enter the number of such a key in the field too.

in any case - sorry for the misunderstanding and the resulting inconveniance, we will try to get this information displayed more prominent.
the intention is to let the user decide how many keys to purchase instead of adding EUR 19 to the price of each product

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • Thank you, Christian.

Sorry, I did not mean to be condescending in anyway.
    - and danish law and order probably isn't valid in Austria anyway [;)] ...

Reading system requirements just isn't the way my mind works.
Hopefully one day I'll have an assistant reading the small print.
Until then I'll buy any upgrade from the makers of fine software like yours, and expect to be notified if any additional hardware relating directly to the softwares own eco-system to be - as you say - prominently displayed. When Logic Pro 8 is released one day, I find it reasonable to be notified if the key needs to be changed as part of the upgrade.

I'll leave all that behind now, after all I only got a bit mad because I was so much looking forward to trying out the Chamber Strings Instrument today!

    Kind regards

    Asger

  • Hi Asger - for the record Danish and Austrian laws are likely to be very similar when it comes to buying goods (EU and all)... That said I'm pretty sure VSL have all their legal bases covered [:)]

  • Thanks for fixing this! I really appreciate all the hardwork you guys do, honestly!
