    Hi there Herb and company,

    Just finished a hour long film using primarily your library (S. cube) and I must say given that I only had eight days to write 35 minutes of music - I don't think I could have completed this task on time without the new VI. Setting controllers to handle everything from breath, expression, vel xfade, release, etc really has been terrific. Thanks for such a wonderful product.


    Ok - here is the question - what is coming up (both in software further improvements and sample libraries to be released?) Have you started recording the choir yet?

    Nice try [:D]

    Two improvements I really hope for - and soon:

    1) Setting controllers a cell level, rather global level
    2) Setting minimizers/maximizers for controller data.

    Congrats on your work though - damn thats a LOT of music to come up with in 8 days. Why in Gods name such a tight schedule? Filmakers should be beaten over head with sticks when they want comething like that.

    Nice suggestions for sure Christian. Thanks Nick and Christian for your kind words. They fell behind on the production schedule (wow that never happens [:)] ) and still needed to get it done for Christmas distribution (had to het the duplicator's plant NLT Sept 1 - and they needed 5 days to mix and master entire project.

    In any case it worked out. The Director was pleased and told me that I would normally have 3 times the schedule (4 weeks). Hope he is not expecting 3 times the quality on the next film [[;)]]

    Seriously - it was the 'test of tests' for this sometimes pickiest of composers. I learned of what NOT to burn hours on (constant tweaking of Strings being the primary one.)

    In hindsight, still wish there was a quicker way to program the strings to 'what I hear'. I still think, for the current crop of string libraries - VI is the FASTEST (using a combination of Orch, Appassionata, Chamber and solo...).

    But that is not to say I would pay BIG money to have something more 'out of the box' - less tweaking needed, etc.

    Also having something to build 'by desk', etc would be great. Doubling existing string libraries to get a fuller richer sound can actually have the reverse effect in some cases. I am not telling everyone here what they don't already know. [*-)]

    VI's WW's and Brass (using a breath controller) are 'write and lay down tracks as you' - extremely fast. I am grateful for that. And they sound pefect IMHO.

    One other item that really saved me time was setting up BOTH harps on this project's template. They work exceptionally together. My hats off to the team for these terrific samples.

    Indeed - Although not much is known about Audio Impressions at this point, their technology seems very promising - and from what I heard their 'sound' is even good. I hope VSL are planning something to take up the competition. If it turns out as good as what they are promising Herb can no longer honestly use the classic "What competition?" as he did with EWQLSO [:D]

    I'm pretty sure VSL will have some improvement in there new version (1.1, ...). So, Herb will continue saying "What competition" [8-)] [[;)]]

    Just curious Rob, are you using your breath controller to control the filter or the VelXfade?

    I actually started out having BC controlling the filter but I found that better suited to a foot pedal and the BC controlling the velxfade.
