Although I'm not sure if that really is my preferred music style I always wanted to know how "they", the hollywood guys, do it. And to have the known orchestral film sound palette under my disposal.
I planned to attend Scott's orchestration course for quite some time already , but it never worked out with flights etc. to either New York or LA. So, three weeks ago, when he did it the first time via telephone conference call I was in. And I certainly don't regret it.
I made a little cue which sums up what I got straight there:
    www.mathis-nitschke.com/mp3/Skizze_3d.mp3 (Only 1MB)
    It incorporates:
    - Use of parallel shifting harmony and harmony movements in thirds.
    - Brass voicing
    - Noodling
    - the Z-clef (Scott's invention)

Note that this is certainly not my best mix and production. Nothing is played in, you essentially hear a brushed up sibelius file. I wasn't interested in that part of the game for now.

So, since I'm coming from a classical perspective it was a real eye-opener towards that "film sound". I can certainly recommend this course for anybody being curious to that 90's film music sound.

    Bests,
    - Mathis
