  • PC Install Problems!!

We just got the second half of the orchestral cube and are having install problems. We keep getting run time errors or the install program is quitting. We got as far as two discs in on the Brass I and two discs on Percussion.

Harps and woodwinds II have installed okay so far.

    Downloaded latest installers.
Pentium 4 PC with 3 gigs of ram. Set up for Giga Studio as well.

    Any suggestions?

  • welcome ap,
could you please be a little bit more specific about the runtime error(s) - when do they occure and is there a message text which could give us some hint to the source of the problem?

also: does the message come up after you are starting the installer, selecting the package.info or during the installation process?

in almost all cases we noticed such a behaviour is a problem with an overheating DVD-drive after reading a certain amount of data (the harps are a somehow little collection, so they might complete without the drive getting too hot)

please try to pause some minutes when you change the DVDs letting the drive open and make sure cooling is sufficient enough

  • The runtime errors happen during installation process, at various points.

Here's the error: "This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contace the application suppport team for more information."

It also says: "Cannot read installation package (file is corrupted?)

We got Brass I to install last night after restarting in safe mode and de-fragging C drive. But it may have just been luck. When I tried to install Percussion this morning we got the "cannot read installation package" error after a few minutes of the first disc. Restarted and tried install again on a different drive, then got the runtime after a few minutes. So it's probably not the DVD drive overheating.

Will try safe start and defrag again to see if it helps.

We really need this up and running for a project and it's taking days to install.

  • sorry to hear about that ap, this seems to be definately a problem with an overheating DVD drive (which manufacturer/model btw? - a few LG and SONY made problems). fact is that they run out of track after a while of heavy usage.
you could try the following: copy the package.info and all .cab files to a temporary folder on your compuer (especially XP should give you a message if a file was not copied correctly ... something like *CRC error* should show up) and run the installation process from there then.

  • Hey Christian - Thanks for this post, I'm having similar problems - however, I have a question/suggestion. I made it through 2 discs of the Solo Strings before it crashed. Is it absolutely necessary for me to start again from the beginning? It is, after all, a two hour process! I've spent almost 2 hours now (two aborted installations).
    Thanks,
    Eric
