  • Discrepancy Sibelius & GigaStudio: how to avoid programm

    Hi all!

Awhile back, I was getting a bit frustrated at the discrepancy between the notations in Sibelius (3) and getting what's written played from GigaStudio.

I like seeing notes on a staff, with all the regular signs for dynamics and all alongside them.
But, as Sibelius can 'read' them and play those signs (for articulations, etc)... I don't get the proper sounds from Giga unless I change settings in Sib note for note.

Example: a passage with pizzicato. The VSL samples should be played from A to Z, but Sib plays them too short, making it necessary to change the durations of those notes in Sib. And for a bigger work, that is quite a hassle!

So, dear Sibelius users, how do you handle this situation? Is there a solution to avoid 'note for note' programming in Sibelius?

    many thanks!

  • You would be better off asking this on the Sibelius forum, but basically you have to alter the playback definitions of notes (and words) so that they all play 100% length, no matter what the marking or articulation.

You're absolutely right... but I kinda don't like that forum because of its navigation, which is quite messy and confusing.
I'd rather ask it here (but will post this there as well).

    thank you!

  • OK, well what you want is possible, but I think it requires a bit of effort.

I don't quite understand your pizzicato point, but I do understand that you don't want a staccato dot to shorten the note, as the sample does this for you. There may be a way of setting a preference for the dots not to play back, but I don't know where it is.

AFAIK what you need to do is create a staccato dot (as a new symbol) on the keypad so that you can enter it in the usual way, but as it is not a real staccato it won't play back. There are four spaces for user definable symbols,. so you should be able to create the most used ones. The only other way is it insert a symbol articulation every time that you need one, but this is very laborious, even using copy/paste.
