  • conflict?

Hi. I'm sitting here scratching my head and I wonder if anyone else as come across this problem.... I'm using Logic and Plogue Bidule with kontakt (to spread ram around) on one G5. In theory everything works fine and sounds good independantly but when I have an instance of kontakt playing in Bidule and I load up a VI solo cello, the clicks snaps and pops start after a short period of time. I know that it's not the buffer as I've tried setting bidule and Logic to 512 and besides, we're talking about pizz (EWQLSO) 8th notes comming from kontakt and a single line coming from the cello. The combo works if I do everything in Logic but it defeats the purpose of trying to spread around ram. Any suggestions? Anyone ever have this?

  • Have you tried setting your buffer to 1024? In the past, crackles and pops were a big issue and this was the only fix. Logic's default AU setting was 1024. Could be different now, but when ever I have any problems, that buffer setting seems to clear it up.

  • Dude,

I feel for you read this....

There is nothing you can do....Vienna are aware of the bug..
The bug has nothing to do with kontakt and VI being in Bidule at the same time...

The bug is that VI instruments crack/pop under OSX when being triggered form an EXTERNAL sequencer (so all VIs hosted by a slave)

Currently, the ONLY way to not have this occur is to run ALL slave machines under WIn XP.

  • So to be clear...

The cracking/popiing will NOT occur on VIs being hosted by the actual DAW (in my case Logic)

ONLY by VIs being hosted by slaves running OSX.

  • Thanks guys. Svonkampen, have you ever heard of the issue coming up the other way around? In my case, the DAW is running the VI and Plogue Bidule is running Kontakt. This is all happening on one machine. The reason I'm using plogue bidule is to spread samples over ram.

I know that it's not the buffer - it's such an undemanding audio test that I'm running that anything above 512 would be ridiculous. Also, if I import the kontakt instrument directly into logic and run it alongside of the VI it runs fine. There is definitely something wonky going on within the combination.

  • Did you at least try the buffer at 1024? It has nothing to do with how much strain there is on the program. It has to do with the way Logic deals with the AU's. I had crackles and pops with only one audio track and one Space Designer. It was Apple that told me about the buffer setting. Give it a try, it can't hurt.

  • Thanks Mat. I gave it a shot but I'm still facing the same problem. It's strange. The problem seems to accumulate. It starts off with random pops and eventually it just sounds like digital hash. The one thing that I noticed is that my CPU seems to be spiking. I'd assume that I was pushing the machine too hard for the cpu but as I said, it works fine if it's all within logic. This could very well be a Kontakt problem. It's just weird that it only presents itself when combining VI with Kontakt in Bidule Plogue. In theory it was a great way to get the most out of my ram but it's looking like it's not a reality.
