  • Whats Going On With Legato Ep Horns and Solo Trombone?

    A couple of things...

I noticed the legato Epic Horns hardly hold out at all at the end of a phrase...is there a reason this wasn't looped like the violins legato? Same with the solo trombone. The bone sounds wonderful but playing almost any phrase is a problem because the final note dies out in no time.

Finally....last gripe...Why is the range so small on the Epic Horns patch? I couldn't even play "D" above middle C the other night....is something goofed up that I'm doing or is the range purposely limited? One hears notes in this range often, especially in film soundtracks..

    Thanks
    Tom

  • Hmmm, Very strange. You should definately be albe to play higher than that on the ranges. I have the Horizon series Epic Horns and I find the range very wide. And as for the hold, again I find I usually have an adequate lengthed sustain for the last note .. so i'd seriously look at your controllers and just see if anythings stifling the midi data.

I've had it before on some patches where certain notes wouldn't play because the default settings weren't properly arranged and the notes where made to come through as 0 velocity rather than 127 or so, which of course made them unplayable.

Well perhaps one of the VSL boys can alude to your problem better. But from what I know of my Epic Horns you should be getting a higher than D3.

  • tom,
have a look at the perform page of VI. There you can change the speed settings of the legato note selection. the slower notes hold out longer and you can even acces the D.(as far as I remember) Not perfect but it helped me...

    best oliver

  • Did you notice there's no matrix for the epic glissandi ? maybe I'm wrong but I have to go on the seperated patches to add it on my setup ...

  • I just tried to get around the solo trombone not sustaining in the legato patch by keyswitching to a TRB SUS patch. The SUS patch doesn't hold out either. What is this????

    Confession!

I got so much of this with PE that I NEVER completed a single orchestration with PE-- sorry to say, VSL team..

(And yet I loved you enough to buy into VI Cube!!!!!!!!!!!)

Can't say that this has happened yet with VISC, but the dropouts and cutoffs only happened in Logic. I'm using Digital Performer now for that reason and have also found a friend with Metro as a very efficient VI host.

The cutoffs are NOT supposed to happen.

  • JWL...

But these don't sound like cutoffs...the note just naturally dies out after about two seconds. Impossible to play a solo like this. Insane.

So you are saying that the Solo trombone (with vibrato) is supposed to be holding out? Like the Legato Violins?

    Geez.

That's what I'm saying. In PE notes would stop sounding all of a sudden in the middle of a sustain that was clearly within the duration of the sample. I didn't mean proper cutoffs, but unwanted cessation of sound.
