  • VI CONTROLLER----NI Kore, JLC Fadermaster Pro?

After doing some experimenting with the NI Kore I have given up on the idea of using this as a Midi copntroller for Vienna Insttruments. Anyone else here get it to work?

JLC Fadermaster Pro- this looks good as a controller for VI. anyone tried it yet?

My Kawai MP 9000 keyboard with wooden keys has great touch but limited Midi controllers- urgent advice needed! I need a VI midi controller now!

  • Bruce:

Sounds like you need a pretty serious controller. Looking at the JLC, I wonder if the VI's ADSR's, etc. can be programmed as well with enough faders left over for the other 5 controllers...?

    Would the MCS-3000 be overkill?

  • JW: most definetly overkill! How many faders do we need? has anyone figured it out?

    Perform section: 6 faders 3 on/off buttons

Mains: pitch + volume: 2 faders or 2 knobs

edit cell: 7 faders you could switch into this via alternate controller template)

other A.B select 2 key buttons master tune, pitch bend range

up to 12 key switch buttons

so minimum req. is 8 faders, 5 buttons, 4-16 knobs, 12 switches?

  • If the FM Pro can handle that, then it might be okay. Try before you buy!!

Certainly, the JLC circuitry should be rock solid...

  • Paste quote from sweetwater:

Hands-On Power in a MIDI Device!
One word: Control. JL Cooper's FadermasterPro gives you complete control - editing, mixing, programming, and more - of any MIDI device. Incredibly powerful and easy to use, the FadermasterPro uses eight fully programmable high-quality 100mm faders and eight fully programmable MIDI buttons for the precise, hands-on power usually not found in many MIDI or digital systems. Store all your setup levels, editing configurations, and other parameters in 20 programmable banks for quick access. FaderMaster Pro also comes with more than 50 factory presets, and multiple units can be linked to form a larger console. A totally automated mixdown system, giving you the precise, effective control and professional-level quality you need!

    • 100mm long-throw faders
    • Assignable buttons
    • Foot control inputs and an expanded memory

  • Bruce-- you should e-mail Brad Lyon at sweetwater, or call him. He's a good guy and can answer all of your questions.

Sounds like the surface appearance of the FM Pro belies its programmability beneath the surface. The only thing is keeping up with what layer of programming you're on without a readout. Sounds powerful.

  • This is a subject close to my heart. Unfortunately I've found nothing that is 100% suitable for Vienna VI. I would hope that eventually VSL will collaborate with a hardware manufacturer so that they could offer either a customised controller or a software template that works the same for all instruments. I try very hard to set up all the keyswitches the same (with a few extra for special articulations), but due to the different ranges of instruments this is not as successful as I'd like.
