    Dear Folkes
    My Logic 7.2.1 runs well.
    However, now that I have Re-installed Vienna Instruments Solo Stgs
    they all load successfully but when I run the song with VI plugins
    I immediatly get a TDM System error as follows:

    Direct TDM:
    System Overload.
    The audio engine was not able to process all required
    data in time.
    (-10011)

    I am running a MAC G5 2 Gig processer with 2.5 gig of ram.
    The Apple logic tech support people say they have no clue whats going on.
    Again, Logic runs all my song files with other plug-ins;
    only with the Vienna Instruments Plug-in and sounds do I get this error.
    Do you have any thoughts or suggestions?

    The tech support couldn't even identify the error code on their own software? I find this wholly unacceptable. Even if they couldn't solve the problem, identifying the error would ad least help you troubleshoot issues with TDM.

    Have you contacted Digidesign to see if that error code makes sense to them?

    Personally, I would call Apple/Logic back and insist that they at least investigate the error code instead of leaving you out to dry.

    I'm almost ready to call Apple about this myself.

    I'll call the apple tech people and wake them up.

    After all I must have pain $290 us for a years
    Logic Pro support.

    Yeah, M. Don't let them get away with "I don't know" for an answer. If the tech rep can't answer you q, insist that you speak to someone higher up who can.

    I got that same message before with Logic, actually. It turned out that there was a virtual "clog" in my firewire hub. After many hours of tech support not being able to help, I tried unplugging the firewire hub from its power cable, and plugging it back in... bingo, it worked!

    So simple. It really makes one wonder why Apple/Logic tech support wouldn't have had at least some small awareness of this as a possible cause. I still fail to understand why their own error code gave them no clue.

    But, users unite!!! Make sure you write to Apple/Logic tech support. Explain the problem again with the error code, and then explain the solution as you have discovered it. INSIST that they include this information in their online support notes. There are probably lots of users out there who could benefit from this info.

    I don't expect anyone's tech support to always have all the answers, but where tech support cannot help users, it should always help users help themselves.

    Thanks All (JWL & Kerry Muzzel) for your input.

    After much research and finding a knowledgable tech
    guy at Apple/Logic the overall consesus was to raise
    my ram level from 2.5 gigs to 4.5 gigs.
    This will be the final component of a mirror config of my studio 1 computer
    that works well.
    I'll see if this works in a few days, I'll let everyone know
    what happens.

    Great, M. Second time's the charm! Sounds like you did some "gentle butt-kicking" to dislodge some answers. Best of luck with the RAM upgrade. It certainly won't hurt, I can tell ya!

    I'm not power OSX under-the-hood kind of guy, but since this thread started, I wondered about the Activity Monitor in OSX. There are tons of info there which speak to the page ins and page outs of virtual memory as related to the amount of RAM installed. It did cross my mind, but what do I know? I moved ahead a few months ago and upped my RAM to 8GB just to eliminate RAM as an excuse for things going askew on my system. I can't say that quadrupling the RAM quadrupled the performance, but there were staibility improvements that were around half again better but nowhere near 4x better.

    I've also had decreasing trust in FW overall. About 90% of my glitches were FW related, so since moving a great deal of data off FW has also helped *nearly* eliminate locking and crashing. Currently, 90% of my problems stem from Syncrosoft, but that's another topic entirely.
