  • VI, Logic EXS, memory and sample count

    Hi,
It's been noted on another really helpful thread that one can max out Logic running VSL in EXS, as I do, but that additionally one can open VIs, which allocate memory independently of Logic. On top of that, someone said one can also run VI standalone. Will this indeed allocate memory as a third independent app?

Are there issues with sample count limitations that make this scenario less attractive than it seems? Because on the face of it it seems that with this setup a fully loaded G5 could be the equivalent of several giga pcs, for example. Am I overlooking something?

    Thanks,
    Rob

  • 3GB in the Vienna Instruments player + about 2GB of other stuff (such as EXS) inside Logic in an 8GB G5 is it - the player is running stand-alone.

But that's 5GB, and apart from taking a long time to load, it runs fine!

  • Hi Nick...
thanks for your reply. This seems to be a running conversation!
I don't understand what you are saying. On another thread someone posted that using VI as an AU in logic allows one to grab memory from the VI server. Then another poster said that in addition to that one could run standalone (though I don't understand how this is accomplished routing wise etc) and do another end run around the per app memory allocation. Perhaps this is a moot point as you seem to be saying that 5 gig is the limit anyway?

Thanks for your help as always.
