    Hey All,

    My VIs just arrived... unfortunately, I seem to actually have a life and can't play with them all night... bummer.

    Anyway, I want to divide them up between my Mac and PC. The PC is deliberately off line, so I'm wondering whether it's possible to authorize my Vienna Key while on the Mac, then just install and move the key over to the PC?

  • oh, oh... And the other thing I've been wondering about forever is whether the standalone is 16 channels/instances, or just 1. If it were just 1 it would seem very strange to me, but I suppose it's possible. There doesn't seem to be much info about the standalone in the docs.

    ad 1: No problem, but you´ll have to install the License Control Center on your PC as well.

    ad 2: Only one MIDI channel per instance. This is because we considered every instance as an instrument (hence the name!) to allow to arrange all different articulations in only one single track of the sequencer via the matrices. If you wish to have more instances on your slave PC, VSTack seems to be a reliable host application.

    you just need an internet connection to download o move licenses. Once the licenses are on your key, the Syncrosoft LCC simply needs to be installed on your PC, that´s all.

    No - to install, remove or transfer licences your PC/MAC must be connected to the Internet. Once you have a key with a licence on you can move the dongle round any PC/MAC you choose, as long as they have the syncrosoft driver software installed there's no problem.

  • Okay, getting there...

    But what I'm doing is trying to authorize a 2nd key. It sound like I can just do that on the Mac, then move the key over to the PC (as long as the PC has Syncrosoft installed). But I'm confused about how to do that, as the Syncrosoft Wizard tells me the Activation Code is no longer valid once is installed on my first key...???

  • okay, so I tried "Transfer", but just as I expected, it just moved my license off one key and onto the other! How does one get duplicate licenses on _two_ (or more) keys?

  • Okay, I've asked the question multiple times on this forum about dividing my library over multiple machines. If each one needs a dongle, then how else can this be done???? And _why_ would there be any need/point in having more than one Vienna Key???? This is making no sense to me. Sorry, but I'm deeply irritated at this point...

  • oh crap... wait a minute... I think it just occurred to me... we can only have one library on each machine, is that it? So I could put Chamber Strings on one and Solo Strings on another, but not both on both... lame, lame, lame.

    Why? Because if it's cross-platform, it's cross-platform. I only ever want to boot my PC for larger arrangements; if I can do it on the Mac alone, I always will. I suppose I can transfer my license only when I'm working on a larger arrangement, but that's more than a bit picky.

    Yes, I suppose the argument goes that one could potentially sell copied Vienna Keys, but at what point does protecting property from non-users become throttling the rights of authorized, paying users? It makes me think of the great gated communities of the U.S., where people live all wonderfully safe and secure in their self-made prisons.

    Anyway, I think I understand now.
    (I'm sure the VIs will make up for it, but it's a disappointing start.)

    I'll try to explain it better. You can only have one licence per collection, so therefore no duplicate licences. However, you don't have to have all the collections on one dongle, so you can, for example, put Strings I and II on separate dongles, and therefore computers. However, as Chamber strings is only one collection, the whole thing has one licence and therefore will have to reside on one dongle and can't be split.

    As you've probably seen, I finally worked that out! [;)]

    It's a bit of a bummer, though. Didn't somebody once mention the idea of a network-based license check? So that the key could be on one machine, with licenses checked on the subnet only? That would be very cool. I'd just really appreciate the flexibilty of being able to decide which machine to user for which instruments, on the fly.

    Hopefully VSL will work something out...

    I agree that it is a real nuisance. the best thing that you can do ATM is install on both computers, have a few dongles and move those around as necessary.

  • If you manage to run more than one key on a computer - please share how you managed it. When I put a second key on a mac the second key shows 'no licenses' in the control center. Put it back to it's own machine and the licenses return.

  • hmm... that's kind of odd, though I'd imagine it's the desired behavior. I was able to transfer licenses from one key to the other on my Mac, though I haven't tried using the transfered license on the PC yet. I guess that's the next test. I'll let you know once I've tried.
