  • VI Cannot See Percussion in Nuendo

I'm having a lot of problems with VI in Nuendo, Mac.

1 The VI interface does not update when you for instance, move your controller on the Performance Page to show the fader what you want to control velocity. You have to click back to Nuendo, then back to the VI for it to update.

2 I added several instances, about six, of VI's to the VST instruments window pane. I froze the tracks, and that works fine.

BUT.. in the Midi tracks assignment page, where you tell it which VI to play, the list in Nuendo does not get numbering info correctly. It starts out OK, with VST 1, VST2, etc, but I had one in SLOT 12, and in the midi track window it only gave me VST 2 as a choice. This is hard to explain, but basically the list is not accurate. I don't know if thats a Nuendo thing or a VI thing.

3 Tonight I see that the VI cannot see the percussion instruments. I went to the Instrument directory and manually reloaded the instruments into it, but after launching Nuendo, the VI still can't see it. So I have no percussion tonight.

    Any tips appreciated.

My love affair with Nuendo is getting thin. Especially after finding out that it will not do an EXPORT TRACK TO AUDIO like Logic. It will do AUDIO MIXDOWN in non real time, but not if you have VST instrument. It will only do that in REAL time. So the only non real time option you have is to freeze. So far I am finding Logic much faster to work with.

Tom you are incorrect. Go to export audio, set the output to export from to be the VST output for your particular Vienna VI, make sure that the boxes for import to pool and audio track are checked and that the box for real time export is unchecked, and Robert is your uncle's father.

DG, the output for my VI is the regular 2 mix out. When I went to bounce (mixdown)....Nuendo said "Track uses external plug in, bounce will be done in real time."

I'll look again today but at that point I wasn't processing anything on that track so I assumed it meant the VI.

Hope the VSL team checks out the Mac version of their VST ...it is definitely having updating problems...(graphic)...

    Thanks for your help....

When you export mixdown there is a dropdown menu for you to choose from. That way you can easily do single tracks, stems, w/wo FX (depending on how you set up FX tracks, groups, sends etc.). As long as you choose the correct VI output (make sure that you name the VST outputs in the mixer to avoid confusion) only this VSTi will mixdown. If you are getting an external plug-in message then either you are using VI in standalone, or there is some other piece of gear that N3 thinks is external. Check VST connections.

Will do thanks. Hey, if you have the time, would you mind emailing me at tom@aerovons.com, so that I could run a couple of questions by you....I don't want to take up VSL forum time on Nuendo things that don't pertain to VSL....thanks so much!
