  • VIENNA KEY only for installation?

    Hi,
First time on forum. Just purchased and installed Vienna Inst. Solo Strings.
I read in the 'quickstart' guide that due to a Syncrosoft update, you only will need the ViennaKey for the installation.
I am currently using a Steinberg Syncrosoft Key (which is the same thing).
I installed and registered and its running fine. However, I was hoping that like the instructions mentioned i would only need it for install, but it needs it to run it everytime.
I installed the latest update for Syncrosoft License Control prior to doing anything so I don't know what could be causing this. I really would love to not have to have that darn thing in a usb port, it's bad enough I am stuck with a darn iLok plugged in.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    KR.

  • welcome kriepl, this must be a misunderstanding.

the ViennaKey comes with a 180 starts demo license which allows an immediate start even if you have not yet registered and so received an activation code (eg. no internet connection available).

in any case you need a somehow recent license control center (software from syncrosoft version 4.9.8 or higher) installed and the ViennaInstruments Software (providing the VST-plugin, the AU version if on a MAC, the standalone player, the library installer and the directory manager)

no library will install or open without detecting a valid license, which is stored on the ViennaKey (or another syncrosoft USB protection device like a steinberg key)

i can't imagine it is mentioned somewhere that you don't need a key later ....

  • Hey cm, thanks for responding and for the help thus far...

Within my Vienna box I received this bright orange QuickStart guide. At the bottom of first step it says:

"Note: Due to an update of the Syncrosoft LLC after completion of the printed Vienna Instruments manual, the VIANNA KEY does not have to be inserted after the software installation any more."

Does this only mean for the Demo License? And then once you register and get your licenses, you need to have it in at all times?

    thanks,
    kevin

  • ok, i digged out the text ... its indeed a great source for misunderstanding ...

formerly the syncrosoft license control center installer asked:
*remove all keys from your computer before you continue installation* (of the license control center)
this has changed (IIRC in version 5.0.x) to:
*please insert _all_ your keys before you continue installation*

in the printed manual for the Vienna Instruments software now there is somewhere a statement like *insert your vienna key _after_ installing the LCC* - this is now obsolete due to the LCC update, because you already _have_ inserted the key at this state.

nevertheless i'd say the sentence in the quickstart guide could bear some re-wording .... sorry for the confusion
