  • Saving a Matrix

I've only today begun using the Solo Strings VI in anger - and very impressive it's been too.

    Just a couple of things...

    1. I haven't been able to save my custom matrix either within Logic or in Standalone mode. The Save button is greyed out. Any idea why? This is an edited version of the Universal Cello matrix but even if I change the name it won't let me save it. I have saved the Preset from the 'Show Window' window within Logic but how do I save only the Matrix?

    2. I know people have been on about how the VI window always likes to stay on top, but wasn't expecting this to happen outside of Logic too. While I waited several minutes for the first instance to load I was trying to operate another application but kept getting interrupted by the 'Please Wait....Loading' dialogue. Will this ever be sorted?

  • Hi Colin,

maybe you don't have a valid Custom Data path (although I can't imagine how). Run the Directory Manager and click on "Custom folders ..." to define a place to store your custom stuff - maybe that will solve the problem.

  • I wish we could name and save matrix's on the page where you assign the KEYSWITCH to the Matrix. I keep wanting to name the matrix there and save it...

  • Thanks David. My Custom Data folder was locked for some reason but it has been fine since I copied my matrices there by way of OS X's authentication process.

    Here's one other thing though....

How do I get my Presets to come up in the Preset Select window of the VI's GUI? I can see my folder structure there but not the Presets I have saved in them.

  • As far as I know, Presets also have to be saved in the Custom Data folder. Subdirectories will not work, and your custom Presets show up "outside" the internal VI folder structure.

    Cheers,
    David

  • Ok thanks David I'll try that, though I would have thought it would make sense to organise presets in folders for each instrument?

  • Here's a Logic tip for you:
When using the Vienna AU in Logic, you can save Matrices but not Presets. Or can you....?
Go to the small plug-in window that Logic opens (not the full Vienna GUI window) and save your preset in the normal way. You'll get a file called xxxx.aupreset

Copy this file to your main Vienna path (where you can obviously also create folders and sub-folders) and your VI Preset will now show up in the VI GUI window.

  • Thanks for posting Colin.

I had already got that far but as David suggests, it appears that you can't store Presets more than one directory level from the Custom Data folder.

So for example, you can put a preset called 'VC Performance Legato' in a folder called Solo Strings within your Custom Data Folder and that can be seen from the GUI, but you can't first put it into a folder called Solo Cello, which is what I had done.

Problem solved...thanks for your efforts everyone.
