  • Errors, Syncrosoft and no VI window.

    Hi there,

I had joined an existing thread but I think perhaps a new one might be necessary.

My problems began after I loaded the first of my new instrument libraries on. Having had VI working pretty smoothly, I suddenly found that, having updated to all the latest specs and releases it wouldn't run. Not in stand alone, and not in Logic as an AU. I keep getting error messages and being told to connect my dongle to a different usb port. I don't have that many, but those I use are powered. The one it's in the front of the tower (G5 2.5 ghz Dual) and I'm running out of configuratiosn and variations on where to put the silly thing. (Sorry, I realise that it's an excellent way for you to protect the software, but it's just that it's more than a little frustrating as it always seems to be the dongle/usb that is the problem).

Now that I've loaded all but one of my licesnses onto my dongle I thought that this would solve the problem. Alas, too much heady thinking and fresh air. Most recently (and for about the 12th time) I sat around for 3mins 30 secs patiently waiting for the standalone to appear only to be met by a message saying that some error occured with the WWd II's English Horn and that it couldn't complete (or words to that effect) before telling me I had to put the Dongle in a different port.

Is it perhaps that I had, and still have, a problem with my download for the WWd II? As I was explaining on a different thread: I was trying to download my WWd II licenses through the wizard when it stopped following an error message about something else trying to access the protection device. This was confusing as all I had done is launched Firefox (something I would suggest you don't do as you try and complete a download - it appears to play havock with the dongles. I'm beginning to note that when Firefox has been started, my VI doesn't work, but have yet to confirm this for certain.). [Probably nothing connected as VI has failed to launch following several new startups and clean, first attempt start straight for VI.]

I restarted the LCC as per instructed and began the process again only to be told that I had a 'transfer pending' license and in order to continue I had to have the other protection device connected to complete the process - I only have one and I was downloading not transfering. It wants me to select a target device, and the only one I have it won't let me select.

I have redone all the files in VI manager, restarted countless times, and all to no avail. The only thing I don't think I've done correctly is putting in a Vienna Intruments Custom Data file on the internal HD - where would it live if not in with the samples on my external HD? I'm going to remove the applications and re-install them, and if that doesn't work, I may quietly cry myself to sleep with a nice glass of wine. Please help - I feel the quagmire slowly folding in over me!

    Huge thank you in advance....

    Nick

  • Is anybody there....!

In an attempt to try and sort out what's happened, I've decided to try a few things, but I dont' want to mangle anything without first knowing that I will be able to fix it.

What would happen if I deleted the WWd II license off the dongle and started the process of installing the whole WWd II again onto my HD? Does the instalation process put a new temporary license on the Dongle and would I then be able to complete the License Download?

Is it possible then to get another unlock code from VSL or do I use the original one still? Any ideas? Would this process also help Andy on the "Oh Oh.... Syncrosoft" thread at all, presuming it would work in the first place?

Also, where should a 'Vienna Instrument Custom Data' file be actually and precisely located? I fear I may have either deleted mine or placed it wrongly.

    Nick
(I'm going to on and off the forum all day/weekend, so apologies if I don't respond as quickly as you might expect.)

  • nick, i'd assume this happened during downloading the license for WW2 extended ...
please transfer your WW2 standard license to the second key first, then repeat the download license for WW2 extended (something saying *upgrade* should appear during this process)
you should end up having WW2 standard + extended on your second key.

don't worry about something might fail - in worst case we can provide a replacement for your license (one of those cases where it is important to have all used ViennaKeys or other syncrosoft protection devices registered)

  • Hi Christian,

Yes this did arise while downloading the license for WW2 but as I only own one key, I'm not sure how I can transfer anything onto a second key, and my Logic key doesn't show up in the LCC (the only other dongle I own).

Can I transfer these licenses onto anything else, like a hard drive? I'm guessing not as this would render useless the whole point of having a key in the first place, but you never know!

As for using VI in the mean time, I still get no further than the error message from the WW2 English horn 2. It then tells me decription has failed - I can send you screen captures of just these little sections as I saved them in case I needed them to demonstrate what I get. However, that means being on a different computer which won't be until tomorrow now. Would that be helpful or do you know what I'm describing? Should I be more patient following these error messages for the VI window to come up (it takes about 4 minutes to get to these) as I tend then to force quit - it says it's not responding.

Let me know if I'm misunderstanding your mail, and I'll check again tomorrow for any responses.

    Thanks

    Nick

  • ouch - you would need a second key, either a ViennaKey or any other syncrosoft USB protection device (eg. steinberg dongle) to complete the process - it seems your key is full. it's not a viennaKey, right?

  • Yes it is a ViennaKey - I got it with the first shipment of VI earlier this year through Time & Space. Surely it's been designed to cope with the full extended Cube? I hadn't heard of Syncrosoft 'til I owned Vienna Instruments.

  • nick, there is just one option left ... to get you going over the weekend you had to delete the pending license transfer (i'll send you an email with a code and a description how to do so)
you should still have a sufficient number of starts left from your demo license (almost all 180 starts) which should allow opening the WW2 without a further error message.

  • It has occurred to me that I should give you a run down of my set-up.
I have a dual G5 2.5 with 7g RAM, 2x 23" screens, and I store my samples on a 1Tb 800 Firewire External Drive. I run the latest OSX, Logic Pro 7.1.1 (according to software update, I don't need to update to 7.2.1 which I think is for Intel processors (?)).

The two screens take up the two USB ports at the back of the tower. I have a powered Belkin 7 USB port hub attatched to one of the screens and provides the only spare USB ports now available to me. This hub used to be attached to the front port of the tower and used to house the ViennaKey. The ViennaKey is now plugged directly into the tower on the front USB port following my most recent rejiggle.

Also, the Vienna Key has nothing else on it but the licenses VSL require for the VI. My Logic dongle holds the VSL Performance tool license - I have the complete Symphonic Cube and all but a one or two of the Horizon series.

    Hope this helps.

  • Excellent. Thank you Christian. I was composing my other meassage when your reply came through and have only just got it. I'll wait with baited breath (and once again, I'm on and off the forum all day).
Nice and clear instructions are always welcome as I'm a bit of a startled rabbit when it comes to doing this sort of stuff - at least you guys are at the end of a forum to help!
