  • Problem with Directory Manager

I have accidently deleted a folder that was created by VI, I believe.
The Custom Folder that points to the the drive where my DAT. files are was in the list of actual folders to the DAT files. Everything was working normally with all my previous installs and subsequent application starts. I have all the previous VIs. Then I installed Harps just recently and could not access the samples, patches/matrices. So I deleted the folder that was just naming my drive ( Volumes/RD2 ) thinking that was a superfluous folder.

I cannot see arrows on my folders that contain the Patches or Matrix files now within the drive when looking at the list on the VI interface.
I am trying to create the same folder I saw in the directories list but it's not appearing the same.

    Any help?

  • ahead please make sure you have VI version 1.06 installed (you will need it to play harps and percussions)

before upgrading to a newer version of the Vienna Instruments Software, adding licenses, adding folders i'd recommend to reboot your computer (so you can make 100% sure no files are still under access)

also if you're adding folders the .dat files should be in this folder directly (without subfolders) - you can also move all .dat-files from a collection into a common *collection-X* folder if you like and reduce the number of listed folders in the directory manager.

if you are using drag&drop (from a finder window to the open directory manager window) also subfolders are resolved, but a rescan will not recognize changes within subfolders (this is a system-related limitation which currently cannot be solved)

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.

Thanks Christen, which folder are you refering to?...One that I create? say 'Vienna Instruments' is now my folder I'm goiing to put all my other specific instrument folders into.
The first sentence you say 'without subfolders'. But you recognize that VI creates a folder with an 'instrument name' originally, correct? But isn't there a path folder also listed? I deleted something that had the name of my drive plus the word 'volume'.

I am confused. I tried just now creating a folder and put all the VIs into it but i still cannot see any maxtix file or patches, just VI folders without arrows. I can't see what i saw before I deleted the path file and I am not able to recreate manually by making a folder.

I work on a Mac BTW

  • I got things working now... just needed to figure out the logic of it. The path thing is very un Mac like, spoiled brats that we are [:D]

  • One thing I discovered was that directory manager does not locate the files unless it is pointed at the actual folder that has the .dat files in. If you point it at a folder the level above they are not found. So in my case directory manager has the 63 instrument folders that the installer created during DVD installation. By the way the installer automatically put these in the directory manager for me so it "worked straight out of the box".

    Julian

  • Yes Julian, that's exactly what I've done, getting back to the folder scheme that was pesent upon installation. Only 28 folders here!!!
But before that there was this folder I had deleted within the list that wasn't actually on my drive.
It just had the words 'Volume/(and name of my drive)'
I deleted it cause I wasn't getting Harps to access it's samples. (I hadn't upgrade the VI to 1.06 yet)
Then everything went to hell, hence my tech support questions.
But upgrade and redepositing the folders and re-adding the individual VI folders to the Directory.
Still don't see that path folder I had previously deleted before the problem started, but do I care?
