  • It's not a Logic thing specifically as the Standalone also takes 7 minutes to launch.

DG when I restricted the Vienna Directory to just the Strings (Orchestral 1+2 Solo,Chamber, Appassionata I get a launch time around a minute as well.

  • Now that I think of it, it use to load very quickly early on [:D] and suddenly it took time [:(] , I probably thought it was an isolated thing so didn't pay much attention to it at the time.

I know that you probably have better things to do, but it would be useful to know how many collections actually causes this huge delay in start-up, as four is obviously OK.

  • It's cumulative - swith the first collections it was 2 mins 30 second for me with App strings and the rest (all extended versions) this has grown to 7 minutes. It works out at about 5 seconds per folder.

This makes sense to me, a fully loaded train doesn't take the same time to start and move forward as a motorcycle does...

It does if it's a Honda 50 with a family of 6 on board [:D]

That is still longer than mine. I'm loading 4 collections in under a minute, which should give all 10 collections in 2 minutes 30 seconds (although I can't test this).

  • On a G5 Dual 2 GHz... (MacOS X.4.6)

Standalone: 1st launch: 3 min 10 sec (more or less)

2nd launch: 25 sec... both... Standalone or within Logic (7.2.1)

    4 collections...

Possibly as my MacBook Pro booted in Windows takes 2 minutes for the whole collections.

julian, it should not exceed 60 seconds (wasn't that mentioned actually in this thread already?)
let us know what about your machine is different from a standard G5 - except RAM, i'd assume you have more [;)]

Just to clear up the confusion i quote Herb from the Thread "Load times in Logic" where he confirms that initial boot times of several minutes are expected for the Vienna Instruments.

"I think there is a general missconception.
I think Maya's 30 to 60 seconds startuptime refer to a startup of a VI after of opening a new logic project and not a startup after rebooting the computer.

That means after a reboot you have to wait several minutes, depending how much content is added in your Directory Manager of the VI.

If you change to a different logic project (no reboot), the startuptime of the first VI instance should be less than one minute (with the whole Symphonic Cube added)

If your workflow needs a lot of reboots of your computer (changing the studio etc.) we recommend only to add the instruments in Directory Manager which were needed.

I have also talked with our developement team to add a save/load option into Directory Manager, so you can easy and fast setup the needed instruments for a certain project.

    best
    Herb"
