Hi All
Just thought I'd update you on a little experiment I've been trying out and also ask a couple of Qs.
Anyway, here's what I've done so far.
I have a 3.6GHZ Pentium PC running WindowsXP. I also have a core-duo intel macmini. I was trying to slave the mac off the XPPC but MidiOverLAN (MOL) doesn't work on Intel based MACs. So,
I used bootcamp and installed WinXP on the Mini, then the demo of MOL plus syncrosoft, plus Solo Strings, plus VSTack.
Got it all setup and it runs beautifully. I have tried 4 instances of the VI in Vstack and the processor doesn't break into a sweat one bit - even using the ASIO4ALL driver. Initial load time of the VI is under 3s too!
I could probably run more instances but the Mini only has 512MB RAM. I'm also running MOL over wireless (not the best thing to do I know).
So, next steps I think are i) 2GB RAM for the Mini, ii) a dedicated soundcard and iii) setup a router so I don't need to use wireless.
My questions though are i) Where's the cheapest UK supplier of MacMini RAM and ii) please can anyone recommend an external ASIO compatible soundcardfor the Mini.
I'd also like to know if anyone has tried loading up a 2GB Maxedout Mini with the VIs already and finally, if there's an alternative to MOL where I could use the Mini running OSX rather than WinXP.
Best
Tim
