  • [Mac] How much extra memory should I buy for my G5 Quad?

    Hello,

The first part of the library is now on my 'old' G5 (the first G5 on the market, so 2.0 Ghz, 4,5 Gb ram). As this computer appears not to be strong enough to play the whole library on, I am planning to run the rest of the collections of VI on my new Quad as plug in. This Quad is now my main computer on which I also run Logic. It now has 3 Gb ram.
But I think 3 Gb will not be enough to run both Logic and VI without problems.
How much memory should I buy extra?
I hear there is a limit in Logic as to how much memory it can 'see', so it makes no sense to put in memory that will not be used anyway.

Another question: how much hard disc room will be needed for the new collections of VI?

    Greetings,

    Gerard Beljon

  • It's a bit of mystery really there seems to be no prevailing consensus on Mac Ram. I have 4.5 Gig Ram in my Quad and it is good enough for now. But I also use a slave G5 with 4 Gig Ram. Plan to add at least 2-4 more Gig soon. Perhaps someone else can chime in here. It seems you can double your Ram limit if you're using EXS on top of VI's.
