  • new computer

Sorry folks ( in advance), but i couldn't find a thread addressing this using the search feature:

anyway, If i get a new computer, how can i transfer my Vienna Instruments solo strings to the new computer, can i just install it and use the usb key that i already have or is that just wishful thinking. any help would be appreciated

  • Yes,

Just install the library to the new computer...and stick the USB dongle in it and your good to go.

  • welcome okdoak,
you can actually copy the installed files (eg. via network or FW-disk) and make them familiar to the ViennaInstruments using the directory manager.

ps: be carefull when copying from a mac to a PC using the smb protocol - file permissions might get corrupted

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • Thanks guys for your responses. But after I installed, I plugged the firewire hard drive with the VSL library on it into the computer. The computer recognizes the hard drive (I use it for toontracks drummy thang and Kontakt library), but the Solo String Module comes up with empty presets. I have used the library program to recognize the location and it accepts it. But the empty preset still shows up. I'm in the process now of re-installing the library to see if that makes a differance. I'm also having trouble getting Sonar5 to recognize the plugin. When I pick VSL solo string I don't get the GUI just a little bar that can't be resized. Man I sure hate moving.

  • Hi,

did you specify just the main Solo Strings directory in the Directory Manager, or every subfolder separately - violin, viola, etc.? The data won't be found if you just set a path to the parent directory.

  • ..just in case: you have to install LCC from Syncrosoft of course.

    /c

  • [:O]ops: That is exactly what I did wrong. I just specified the master folder and not each individual file. Thanks again for the responses. They were helpful. I hate moving to a new computer. I always do something stupid when I port over to another computer. And a note for all you Sonar5 folks, if you don't specify the specific folders Sonar will not read the VST correctly either.

  • Hi,

if you drag and drop your master folder from, e.g., the Explorer into the Directory Manager, this will also work (and will speed up the process...), you will see all folders within this folder.
But this only works with drag and drop, when you add folders from within the DM, you need to add them one by one.
