  • Audio examples of String Articulations?

Could anyone suggest a good website or book that has audio
examples of the different string articulations? I thought it might be helpful in working with string samples to actually hear different articulations and know
how they're used. I've heard just a few on VSL's site, but nothing much to listen to.

    Thanks,

    Tom

For listening in general to long notes articulations:

Here you can listening to the "short notes" articulations of strings:
(stac, detaché short, détache long, cresc, dim ... followed by pizz/ legato-samples and finally som combinations:

Thanks so much. Those are great examples!

Can you suggest anything to work around this problem? When I'm playing a legato violin line, it seems that unless I can
play at or near the tempo that the sample was recorded, I can hear the slow attack begin and then it cuts off when I go to the next note. I think this was referred to as a "sucking" soumd. It seems to help if I extend the note in my sequencer, so it overlaps with the next note.

Also, when I use the speed controller in VI, I can't quite get the technique. How do I make adjustments in the speed controller so that if I play faster or slower than was intended, it switches on time to the right key switch? I know I need to extend or shorten those brakets on either side of the speed controller, but any tips on the best way to get it to switch at the right time?

    Thank you,

    Tom Wolfe

    Hi Tom
I'm not sure whether I got the meaning of this question or not because English is not my mothertongue...If the VI play a legato or not depends on the gap between the previous note and the current one. Even if you have chosen Perf Leg you need to have this gap smaler than 50ms to get a lagato. So the best way is to play (or construct) overlaps at the "legato points". Even if you decrease the tempo you will get legatos.

I have no other solution. Fiddle around with the %-braket.

Here you will find some further tips perhaps:
