    I installed Orchestra 1 and 2 on my new dual core intel MacBook Pro laptop with 2 gz speed and 2 gigs of ram. I installed the new public beta drive 1.06. It doesn't work.
    My computer locks up. Many times I can only load two Vienna players (on two separate tracks). When I load the third, it never gets there. What's up?

    noel, i've enabled the public beta of version 1.05 again - would you please check if the behaviour is the same as with the 1.06?

    I'll continue to make it all work. I'll tweek all I can with 1.06 and give you the lowdown. Then I'll put 1.05 back in and give you that lowdown.

    First thing I did was to put the orchestras on another drive. They will stay there because it will load and play faster.

    I gotta tell you one thing about the MacBook Pro dual core intel - the top of it gets very, very hot even if I'm not running Logic. I have to put fans all around it.

    I have to ask you though; Is Vienna running on Rosetta?

    no, the Vienna Instruments software runs native on x86 - we actually do not provide universal binaries but seperate compilations for each processor family.

    People will be interested in that fact. Does it take a while to heat up or not long at all?

    I had expected a teething period with the Intels, but hearing that they're running hot is not good news. I do hope that Noel gets VI running, though, and will be most interested in hearing the results.

    just for the records - we had already 1.06 running on a probook successfully for testing and didn't notice unusual temperature ... the performance was astounding btw, not sure now if maya didn't actually post it ...

    My MacBook Pro 17" 2.16Ghz is the quietest and coolest running Mac Laptop I've had. If booted in Windows it runs much hotter though I think this may be that in OSX the ATI graphics card is underclocked - perhaps for heat issues. Also of note is a discussion on apples forums (MacBookPro) of the use of 2GB RAM sticks to provide a total of 4Gb in the MacBook (expensive though!)

    G5s have some fancy fan control built into the firmware, but it may need the OS as well to work properly. Laptops are simpler, but I wonder whether XP simply doesn't have the drivers to turn the fan on when needed.
