Something of interest that I found out after hours of research. I am running various sequencers on a Mac G5, and I have VSIs spread across two PCs and a Mac Powerbook. The PCs have 2 GB of memory each and pretty fast processors.
To host the VSIs on the PCs, I first decided to try the program Chainer. Unfortunately, VSI does not seem to like working with the program Chainer. There are lots of drop outs, clicks, etc. I then tried a program called VSTHost which worked without a problem. Incidentally, Chainer is $60 and VSTHost is free!
The only problem that I have found with VSTHost is that it does not automatically load the VSI presets. If you save a configuration, VSTHost will open the right number of VSIs and remember your MIDI settings for each one. However, you need to load a preset into each VSI manually.
Anyone else had similar behavior with VSTHost or Chainer? Has anyone tried VSTHost with the /3GB setting?
