  • Syncrosoft Nightmare - VI won't install! (Mac)

I have my Syncrosoft software installed, my license fully dealt with, activation code, etc. As far as the fully-installed Syncrosoft License Control Center can tell, everything is perfect.

Next I try to run the VI installer I downloaded from the site, per instructions.

I get the following error message:

"You cannot install this software on this volume. Please install Syncrosoft License Control Center to this volume before continuing."

This is insane. The SLCC is installed. I'm looking at it on the screen as the VI installer tells me this utter rubbish.

What's going on, and how can this be immediately remedied?! I'm tearing out tufts of hair with frustration at the sheer nincompoopery of this.

    Thanks!

  • Is it the latest License Control Center? Did you download the license? Is the dongle plugged directly into a USB port (for troubleshooting)?

Nick (ZS), thanks for the kind favor of your speedy response. The answers to all your questions are Yes, but I believe I've discovered the root of the problem:

I hadn't realized Tiger was required for the Mac version. I am therefore up the creek until I can obtain a copy of that for $129 and install it over my spanking-latest update 10.3.x.

It's curious to me that VSL should have found it necessary to write their software with no compatibility backward of 10.4, when for instance the brand-new DP5 is compatible with 10.3.7 and above. I'll do them the favor of assuming there may have been some valid reasons for it that exceed MOTU's in the validity department. "Huckabees: last year, not so good. This year, good." Anyone acquainted with those reasons?

At any rate, I look forward to it when I can eventually get it installed.

  • vogelscheiss, unfortunately (or fortunately?) VSL is a little sample producer from a little country and not MOTU .... nevertheless we have taken the plunge to develop and release our own sample player, what - AFAIK - no other company in this segment did. somehow successfully i'd think ...

considering the - naturally - limited ressources we had to select the most promising flavours of operating systems, which turned up to be OSX tiger and win XP. differently from windows where the audio/midi related structures are almost the same for W2K and XP, there have been relevant changes going from panther to tiger.
facing the fact, that for OSX actually two processor families have to be supported, the *outdated* flavour of OSX, panther, had to renounce our attention.

    thanks for your understanding, christian
