  • Two VI Questions regarding Performance VLNS....

Question one......When playing a line with the Perf legato instruments, whether a string or a woodwind or whatever, what is the best way to have the final note of the phrase fade/release naturally? When I let go of a key, the sound just stops. So I have to play notes longer, and fade them in the mix. It would seem most helpful if one could use the mod wheel to crossover to a note that really did fade out naturally. What do you guys usually do?

Question Two: Is there something you can set up so that you can play repeated notes in the middle of a legato line? For some reason I thought I remembered that in this new VI that was already incorporated in some way. So that if a line is " A, D, F, E EEE F" those "e" notes will sound natural. ....

    Thanks

  • The best sounding way is to keyswitch to a decrescendo violin sample.......you can choose between 2, 4, 6 second ones....

    Worx beautifully [;)]

  • Regarding E, E, E, E

Go to "Perf Repitions" and choose the Per-Legato patch ...It has four repitions....

Worx great......just keyswitch to it right before the first of the E, E, E, E

    you'll love it.

Also....one thing I like to do to all the patches is right-click on "expression" fader and assign the pitch-bend as controller.....now when you bend the pitch to left to volume fades out....You will need to change the curve though........upper-right hit conroller map.....and adjust the pitch-bend curve to equal power shape....

  • SvK....hey thanks for the tips! Will try all of this!

    Appreciate it..

Yes, I tried using mod wheel to crossover to these, and they work, but the catch is, there are only a couple of dynamics sampled....so if you are playing at a different level the crossover doesn't work....I do wish they could work on this feature because I used to do it all the time in the previous Pro Edition by using a different midi track and for some reason it seems like there were more dynamic fade outs available...maybe not....I can't remember now...

  • Tom don't use the Mod-wheel to cross-over to the decrecendos...

Instead assign them to a Keyswitch .....so that the mod-wheel is free to be used for Velocity Crossfading......."Swelling"...

All of the "Me" crescendos have 2 velocity layers....in other words 1 is "mf to ppp" and the other is "ff to ppp"

If you do it this way, your Decrescendos will blend beautifully.

In "Performance" tab turn on "Velocity Cross Fade" then right click it's fader and assign "Mod-wheel"....now make sure that your matrices are NOT using mod-whell for anything and instead rely on Key-switching....this will give you the most freedom.
