  • Just noticed that the main daw that is responding fine to opening files, etc. has also a System Idle process of 98-99% (while just at desktop). Thanks must not be it.

Scratching my head on this one. Conducting 'error disk check' right now on all slaves to see if that rectifies the problem. Any other ideas???

  • After all the checking it may have been the simpliest. A brand new optical mouse is defective (thru a 4 port KVM). Used another mouse had lying around- all is well. [:O]ops:

Wished I would have checked that 2 hours ago. Oh well, it's been fixed. [:)]

    Rob

(anyone recommend a good optical mouse that will work with a 4 port KVM switch - the new MS intellimouses don't - drivers don't work with the KVM. Any recommendations would be apprcieated.

Rob, I can't answer your questions but I use a Logitech MX1000 laser mouse and it is more accurate than any optical mouse I've seen. It is quite large (the way I like it) but it fits my hand perfectly and the programmable buttons work well.

  • I have a logitech as well... the MX700 I think... works well. However I am not using the logitech drivers, just the ones that comes with WinXP.

  • Thanks guys - are you using these logitech mouses with a multi port KVM swtich?

    Rob

  • rob, we have noticed this issue also with some mice (USB and PS2) - the problem could be tracked down to a cubase VST issue in conjunction with ASIO and a USB midi device ...

the *system idle* process is something i'd call a *dummy process* - to understand the CPU load assigned to this process you have to know the principle of multi-tasking.
each process requests a certain time-slice from the processor in certain intervals - windows assigns a portion processor time to this process then depending on it's priority and size of the requested portion related to all requests.
the system idle process requests zero processortime with no priority so acting as a placeholder - 99% CPU load for it means the machine is idle and doing *nothing* 99% of the time

  • Thanks Christian for the information.

Hey guys - the USB to PS/2 adapter shown on the MX1000 mouse is what I need as the KVM 4 port switch only has the PS/2 input.

The big question is - does the MX1000 work with the KVM switch in this way. The MX Intellimouse only works if directly connected to the main Daw USB port (no KVM 4 port switch).

Can't see in the literature if the 1000 will actually work with the KVM???

I have no idea, as I use Remote Desktop. Sorry.........

  • Thanks Daryl - I just called Logictech and they DO NOT support KVM switches [:'(]

Anyone using a GOOD mouse with the KVM?

excuse me, this is pure nonsense ... the KVM has zu support a mouse, not the other way around (the KVM has to detect the mouse and present a *mirrored* device to the connected computers)

we had problems with some KVM switches, especially if on the user-side a PS2 mouse was connected and on the computerside(s) USB or we used a mixed environment (keyboards PS2 and mouse USB).
solution was to get a pure USB KVM and use only USB for keyboard and mouse without any adapters

  • Rob, my Logitech mouse is connected to a USB KVM switch and that runs well.
If you can't find the right mouse, maybe you can connect a simple PS2 mouse to your KVM switch which control your 4 slaves. But then you'll have 2 mice... (mouses? [:)])

    well, just a thought..

  • Yea - unfortunately I just purchased the PS/2 KVM 4 port switch (pink and green cable out of KVM to each computer - same coming in from keyboard and THIS mouse.)

That's why I got this simple cable PS/2 mouse. But after only 2 months it crapped out on me [:'(]

Does anyone have a PS/2 KVM switch and found a good mouse model to use with it?

    Thanks again guys.

    Hey Rob,

What version of the MOTU driver are you using? Some are reverting back to earlier versions of the driver to see which one works best. You may want to start by reinstalling your current driver. If it's not the latest one, update. If that doesn't help, try one of the earlier drivers which were released during or after the date when you got your computer.

There are Mac users now experiencing misfires with the MOTU 424 cards as well. I'm only now gathering data on these issues.

The simplest thing to consider is that over even a short time, files and drivers can get corrupted and need to be replaced.

Good luck.. and keep us posted.

  • hi rob.

i am using a KVM switch, wich is working without problems using a logitech
"MouseMan traveller" (not wireless) and a standart cherry keyboard.
