  • VI's - Multiple Dongle / G5 setup

Hi Everyone - First time post!!!

Got a question and I can't seem to find an answer covered anywhere (maybe due to me not looking hard enough)....anyone help?

Is there any kind of concession / discount if I wanted to buy mulitple versions of various VI's for use solely by myself on a multiple Mac setup (3 G5's?).... or am I looking at buying each VI at full price everytime I may want to buy a duplicate for the 2nd or 3rd Machine?

I would hope that the answer is YES - you will be smiled upon by the powers that be by spending more £$£$£$£'s on multi-library setups for sole use.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated - and also - hope to speak with you all more often now I finally got around to registering with the Forum!

    Best wishes

I'm afraid that you are going to be disappointed. If you want multiple copies you have to pay for them. However, try twisting the arm of your local dealer just in case.

However, in theory you can install everything on all your machines, use 1 dongle for each collection and move the dongles around to fit your workflow. However as some Mac users seem to be having problems with the dongles I don't know how much messing around you would consider safe. It is also rather stupid that you can't split collections, but there has been a stony silence from VSL on this issue.

  • I would have to build an extension in my studio to accomodate the 'dongle hell' that would ensue!!

I have also read a little about what the mac users are encountering (I have 2.5 GIG / 2.5 GIG RAM / Logic 7.2) and I am not sure I would trust this method.

Really it is so I can isolate the strings and assign them to one computer as they always tend to be the heaviest taxed section (in my stuff anyway) - maybe that is the answer....>Strings on the 2nd computer and everything else on the main machine with other third party plugs / VI's.

Either way....My Local dealer is constantly in intensive care with "twisted arm contusions - no chance there.........

My guess is "Stoney Silence" will prevail.....

Strings on 1 computer is no problem, as you could put both licences on the same dongle.

Where I run into problems is that although I can split the Orchestral strings over 2 computers (Violins and Violas on one, Cello and Bass on the other), I can't do the same with Chamber or Solo Strings, so I have no option but to run them all from 1 computer, unless I buy additional copies.
