  • newbie Question: so where the hell is my vst plug-in???

After installing VI Solo Strings, I have only the Standalone installed. I cannot launch a VST plug-in version through Cubase SX 3.1.1.944 since there is nothing in my /Library/Audio/Plug-ins/VST folder. How can I instantiate the VI plugs for Solo Strings with no plug-in in my plug-in folder?

I installed using Vienna Instruments Software installer OSX PPC 1.05 & Library Installer 1.03. I didn't use the OSX Intel 1.05 as I have a Dual 2Ghz G5, obviously not Intel.

    Libraries are installed to:

    /Users/john/Documents/VSL Solo Strings Libraries
/Users/john/Documents/VSL Solo Strings Libraries/01 Solo Violin
/Users/john/Documents/VSL Solo Strings Libraries/02 Solo Viola
/Users/john/Documents/VSL Solo Strings Libraries/03 Solo Cello
/Users/john/Documents/VSL Solo Strings Libraries/04 Solo Bass

There is only a Vienna-Instruments-Standalone.plist in my /Users/john/Library/Preferences folder.

  • Hi Johnny California,

the Vienna Instruments supports AU for OSX, and VST only for windows XP at the moment. But our software departement has just finished the OSX VST version, so it's coming soon. We are in final beta status at the moment.

  • Herb, I think you meant to say that the Mac VST is in final beta now, and not the Mac AU (which we already have). [[;)]]

Is the progress on the RTAS version advancing as fast as the VST, btw?

  • Sorry for the confusion, I've corrected it.
And yes, RTAS is also in final beta.

  • Sorry Herb, feeling very let down by VSL.

Vagn Luv states we already have Mac AU and that corresponds to what you and ILIO say on your websites...now. I thought Cubase SX3 was AU aware and if so, how do I use the "existing" AU Solo Strings plug-in. I've used the latest installers from download section. I don't see it anywhere. The only thing I can find is the /Users/john/library/Preferences/vsl-standalone.plist

Feeling disgruntled I guess as both VSL and ILIO websites originally informed "plugin" and standalone functionality. Not having revisted them prior to ordering, now I see websites have changed to specifying AU only on Mac and VST only on PC.

So do I check back daily, or weekly, to see if the $500 I paid for your product finally arrives in a VST form which I can eventually use?

  • Johnny,
Until the VST Mac version arrives you should go here...
    http://www.grantedsw.com/rax/">http://www.grantedsw.com/rax/
and get RAX. It's an AU app that can host VSL.
From Cubase you can use MIDIPIPE or MIDI PAtchbay to send midi from Cubase to RAX. This works very well and will get you through till the VST becomes available.
The VSL instrument is incredible so hang in there.
You can do the same thing with the stand alone but RAX will let you run multiple instruments.
    Any question, let me know.
    Cheers,
    J
