  • Question

    Hello,

I´m new to this forum and new at VSL. I plan to buy a new orchestra lib. VSL sounds very interesting, but: what does VSL distinguish from other libs?
    3090 EUR are not cheap!

My second questions is: how (good) works the perfomance set. Is it neccessary? Are there any problems (installing, working, handling)?

I use Sibelius and GS on 2 machines.

Ideas are welcome! You also can mail directly.

    Many thanks in advance
    Rolf.

  • hi rolf, i'm sure you looked through the general information also in the popups at http://www.vsl.co.at/products_statisch/orchestral_cube.htm?cmsqflag=1&cmslang=Englisch">http://www.vsl.co.at/products_statisch/orchestral_cube.htm?cmsqflag=1&cmslang=Englisch
the library has been carefully recorded on a sound-proof stage http://www.vsl.co.at/creation/silent_stage.htm and edited in several steps to give you an outstanding signal-to-noise-ratio.
the advanced mapping enables you to have every nuance of an instrument at your fingetips, enhanced with performance elements to provide eg. *true* legati.
since the content of the vienna symphonic library does and will grow constantly, the VIP-option http://www.vsl.co.at/static/products/vip_eng.htm allows several upgrade-paths and protects your investment

regarding Sibelius and Giga i'd like to point to

i'm sure you will recieve some more *creative* opinions, apart from my rather *technical* arguments

  • Hello Rolf,

here's what I posted some days ago in another thread. I assume this will help you as well:

we'll provide answers to all FAQ with the relauch of our website coming very soon. In the meantime, I'll try to give you a short description of our products available - the First Edition.
(The Pro Edition which will be released in July will contain about double the data size of the First Edition )

    FIRST EDITION
consists of Orchestral Cube (containing Strings, Brass&Woodwinds and Percussion, which you can purchase seperately) and Performance Set.

The Orchestral Cube contains 45 gigs of orchestral multisamples:
single note samples in various lengths and dynamics (from staccato to
sus, from pp to ff), diminuendo, crescendo, sforzando, trills,
    tremolos, pizzicatos etc.

The Performance Set contains 48 gigs of specialized samples that you
perform from the keyboard or place in your sequencer, using our "Performance Tool". This offers you completely authentic legato playing or repetitions.
When you play your personal melody, what you'll hear is natural legato
(cause you always reproduce originally recorded intervals with starting
note, target note PLUS the natural transition between them!) in the
tempo and agogics you choose. The same with repetitions - you'll never
get the same sample twice and therefore avoid the infamous "machine gun" effect.

The concept of the Performance Set samples is completely new and innovative. It gives you the possibility to achieve completely authentic results for the first time, for it overcomes the difficulities of producing legato and repetiton sounds - which was the the Achilles heel of sampling until now.
Ideally you should combine Orchestral Cube and Performance Set in your work, because all Vienna Symphonic Library samples were recorded under the same circumstances in the same environment - our "Silent Stage".

    HTH,
    sabine
